Hey dudes and dudettes.. thought I'd start a sketchbook on CA. I've already got a daily sketchbook elsewhere but its left me uninspired since I dont really get that much critique.
I am really determined to improve and draw everyday - I hope I can learn a thing or two from some of you and I'm sure I'll enjoy my time here :yayca:

love the little characters and the NAZI creature, keep working. draw from life at every opportunity. that last character/creature get reference for the pose (could use a mirror) and get reference for the color and your images will really improve.

chaosrocks - Thanks for commenting, very much appreciated ^_^ I wont delete I promise.. just removed some of the wip 3d crap that doesnt belong here, hope you dont mind.. ;) And as promised I will post more! I really must draw more frequently!
Dile_- Ahhh Dile! Its really an honour to be getting comments from a talented youngen like yourself ;) Your sketchbook blows my mind away.. so much dedication man! Very inspirational!
themissinglink- haha I've come to hate the Nazi creature >_< Such a bad 3d mesh and texture job.. but considering its a 3 inch toy I guess its ok. I will take your advice and start drawing from life.. just need to find a pencil .. I've bene so stuck on CG for quite a while now.
I will study from life as much as I can. Your comment is appreciated

The dining room is very cool. although screenshot from that angle the space is kind of confusing. try to compose your screen shot as if it were a photo, move the camera around until you get the well composed angle that you want...

Your bull concepts cracked me up, mate :D Lots of cute little ideas.
I noticed one thing that seems to be hurting your 3/4 drawings: Lighting on lips. There's something funky going on with the lighting. The upper lib shouldn't be as exposed to light when the lower lip is being lighted with a lightsource from above. Think of the upper lip as a cliff that is hanging over the lower lip.
Fantygirl.jpg in your first post has awesome eyes, and could overall be awesome if the lips didn't have that odd lighting. I just did a quick example of the lighting thing. (i did a few smaller adjustments to her chin.) It's not the best i've ever done, but i hope it helps.

JFS - Thanks man .. I appreciate you taking the time to comment on my sketchbook. I've always had a problem with lighting lips so your comments on that is useful. :teeth: I should be posting more eh? damn.. I've been so busy reading peoples sketchbooks.

Good work, mind doing me a favor and playing around with perspective a bit?
Exaggerate it, Try a wierd angle etc.
I find it helps you get a better feel for form and depth, plus it can be just plain fun and challenging. =P

Dile_ - Thanks, just read this crit and will keep it in mind for my next update on the mastercopy!
JFS - Haha JFS no worries, I loved the picture :P Thanks.. trying to get these proportions right and slowly getting the values to work.. but what Dile_ said was right.. its still too light. (afraid of #000000) ;)
arechiga_tony - Thanks man, I hate 3Dsmax though.. I doubt i'll ever touch that program again. Will try some Arch viz scenes in maya soon though!

I will try do some figure drawing sheets right after the master copy whilst checking out some loomis books (downloaded all of them a while ago) And I will take your advice on the scribbling! THAT is GREAT!
dude, really, this stuff is awesome, now keep it up! If you have not done
so, Go through Hurricanes sketchbook, awesome greyscale stuff / creatures and BIG variations of stuff, you cant deny the inspiration ;)
The greyscales looks great, but they are a little flat in some areas, also
you are useing very "pale" colours, with tons of white shining through it, bad :shrugs:
Keep it up though ;) Im always so happy when i see potential in someone!
Edit*
Use bigger brushes, establish a nice midtone first! thats important to stay away from to pale colours, then add highlights and stuff ;)

hey Fabianv, nice start with the figure drawing. Have you got any books on anatomy? You should really get a few, you can get the Bridgeman and Hogarth ones from amazon and you can get the Loomis ones free online from www.finearts.sk. Start doing some studies man, then you can do more dynamic poses.

Thank you for leaving a comment in my sketchbook Zanconato, it is really appreciated!
I downloaded all 6 loomis books a few days ago and Im hoping that if I go through it that it would help some :)
I really cant wait to be able to freely plot out dynamic poses on the fly without much technical difficulty.
It will take practice though.. and I Intend to work my butt off!
Thanks again!

Haha, another brainfartist! I'm making good on my promise to ya, so here goes:
Sciboy nailed the need for better gesture work, but I would love to see you get your value range broadened and really punch up your form. Your figures are lacking volume because you are using generally the same brush size throughout, using soft floofy brush types (a hard edge in a floofy painting makes a HUGE difference) and not showing confidence in using a really light or dark hue for your most extreme shadows and highlights. I agree with the advice about using a bigger brush but I will also toss the importance of edges into the mix - like I said, floofy just ain't doin it for ya ;)
If you're buying books right now, I cannot reccomend All Prima by Richard Schmid (http://www.richardschmid.com/book.html) enough for you!!! He teaches light, form, edges and so much more in plain freaking english. Pair up that book with some master copy paintings and I think you will really begin to see big changes in your work.
There is some great imagination at work here, I am very partial to your cuttle fish-headed monster there. Obviously you take what you do seriously, which is a breeding ground for growth and inherent awesomeness. I'm looking forward to seeing you evolve here!
And that, my calendar-loving friend, is my two cents ;)
