Well this is more an experiment. I shot 3 photos of the same motive with a different depth. Then I superposed the three images. That is the result.

October 9th, 2006, 07:45 AM
I'm happy you like them.
I didn't use a special background. Through the lighting and my zoom-lense the background became dark. :) (the distance from the glass to the background was about 2-3 meter)
camera settings:
1/1000s (later I went to 1/1500... 1/4000 is the best but there was not enough light for this setting...)
F/8
ISO 400
50-200mm zoom lense (I used a tripod like 2 meters far away from the glass)
trials: ~50
Just try it. You will see what the right settings are.

wow, your newest photos are great too, Insane!
I have always wanted to try that myself, and I have been experimenting with it aswell. Even though I haven't come up with anything worth showing yet. I envy you, how you get the background that dark, that has been a problem for me.. do you use an artificial light source, or just the sun?
and btw, which one of your lenses did you use, taking the photos at the beach?

hey there! wonderful photos, norwin! that first photo has such a lovely dreamy feel to it. amazing. the little wave is very well done, too. and the wineglass serie is technically flawless and very tasteful. although the "filmstrip" (no. 8) is a little confusing because it's the "wrong" order, but you probably did that on purpose... so impressed here, great job, mr. schmidt! :)

i am sure the last batch looks really cool on your computer. But the compression really ruins things.
The best way to keep your image alive, is if you were to upload it in the PNG format.
Last image looks swell btw.

Okay some words to my tricky experiment:
I just took my lens (18-55) and used it the other way round. (I held it on the camera :D)
This happened:
- I almost couldn't see anything @ 18-30mm. (too dark)
- I was forced to use a flash in all pictures.
- The brightness is very mixed up (very dark and bright places in the same photo)
But the effect is awesome.
All these photo-objects I used here are not bigger than 2cm (0.79 inches). The Macro effect is incredible!! :bashful:

ummhh you are right there is some noise. I did some fast shots (on a white paper) but I couldn't see anything yet. Hopefully it was just on the outside of the lens >:{
Nevermind... I will take some more shots with a reversed lens. (Even if I must clean my camera afterwards.) There are so much things I haven't tried yet :D

The dust is on the back of the lens, its not visible in normal shots because its far from the dof. When you reverse the lens the dust is in the dof because of the magnification. (and its now on the "front" of the lens, closer to the dof)

November 18th, 2006, 06:45 AM
Because I've ben so slack with actually looking at threads recently, you are the lucky winner of one (comparitively) large C&C.
45: The colours of the sky are really nice in this. I would have preferred to have a lower horizon, and less out of focus grass(?) in the foreground though, as the sharp silhouettes are a lot more interesting. This done a lot better in 48, even if it is just because the perspective is further out.
46: This is just incredible. If I had taken it I would have immediately gone and got an 8x10 and framed it and put it in the corridor, that's how much I like this. The single crit I haveis that the wood is too textureless for my liking, if there was just a little on the stuff in the foreground I wouldn't have anything to change.
47: This is a very nicely done shot because of the lines. The beach and the dune work together to focus te eye on the centre of the shot very nicely. The big problem is noise though, I assume due to a high ISO but it is a shame.
48: I likeit more than 45, but I'd still prefer a lower horizon. Probably just me
49: This is cool, what and where is it? No crits yet, as I'm not sure what it is ... but as an image I like it.
50: This is also excellent. The dof is absolutely spot on, the colours are interesting, the rust comes out really nicely, I cannot think of a way to improve this.
51: I have no idea what this is. It's something red and noisy, but that's all I can tell.
52: A feather? Once again, too noisy, and coudl do with a tight crop to have more of the photo in focus, even if it's mostly the green quills on the feather. Either that, or a deeper dof. I don't really know.
Overall: Lovely work, some good concepts, just a shame about the amount of noise you get on some of your shots. Defemitely an improvement from where you started.
