Hello :) My name is Molly and I just found my way here via a reccomendation on Livejournal. I've looked through some threads and the portfolios but I feel a bit out of place - it seems I'm a lone cartoonist!
Which is slightly scary!!! So tell me I'm not alone and introduce yourselves :D

Hi Molly. I am really fresh to the boards myself. I am not a cartoonist as I really have trouble duplicating designs. But I have tried my hand once at some minor cartoon work. Perhaps I will post it sometime. CA is rather intimidating. There are some rather kick arse artists here.
Well, anyways, kick up a sketchbook and post some stuff. I'd be happy to take a peeksie. :)

Depends what you mean by 'cartoonist', I & many others on these boards do comic stuff, & there are artists who stand alone gag material.
But, really there's no need to feel out of place, there's artists from every field of commercial & fine art to be found here, so pull up a chair & get stuck in.
Welcome to CA...

What Staz said. I wouldn't feel so out of place, I'm sure that you'll find the encouragement and inspiration that you need. I'm somewhat of a cartoonist mysel,. I do the stand alone gag kind. Which reminds me that I haven't posted any in my thread in a while. I have a few being published soon, but I can't show them until they do, so...
But anyways, post your stuff, I'd like to see them.

We have cartoonists, sculptors, animators, 3d-artists, photographers, vector-artists etc etc etc...post your stuff and if it's good you will see how "alone" you really are ;)
welcome btw :)

Ah well that's a relief :)
I may well post some stuff up :) I was told you guys are much better at constructive crit than the 'omg that is hawt' brigade over at DA - and although I'm rubbish at taking criticism I have decided the only way to get better is to get some thrown at me :D

That's not hot! Work on your smilies. The composition of the last post needs more attention, the focus gets lost. Color scheme is too boring and the anatomy is slightly off...
Criticism is our passion.

Fab
Ilaekae - glad to see another cartoonist! I haven't been doing much cartooning recently, having become obsessed with doing 'serious' illustrations of a couple of beautiful people, but I have a huge 'to do' list!

Ditto. Here's your novelty pitchfork, you will be posted in the 6th Circle during your trial period, advancing to the 4th Circle if all goes well.
The majority of the folks here are into more classical and realistic illustration but there is a small and growing number of artists who have primarily an animation background with cartoon-ish sort of works. I confess that the Flight Forums (http://flightcomics.com/forum) favor cartoons, comics and highly stylized works more than CA, but I'd love to see more diversity here anyday. ;)
Of course, there are a few artists here who can span the realistic to cartoony spectrum with ease... those are the ones to look out for. :madchef:

Oh excellent, I'll have a look over on flight!
I much prefer stylised work - just my personal preference - and felt totally out of place with all this (utterly gorgeous) digital painting!
Ah well, here's for the CA cartoonists growing in numbers!!

first off, hello :) it's actually pretty hard at times to differ between certain cathegories, but we have almost every possible style on the planet here (except maybe new-age abstract and flea market kitsch).
and on a general note,we really need to bring back that introduction thread on top.

Flea Market Kitsch? Does that involve cable knit sweaters and baked potatoes?

Oy oy. Welcome to the party. Go find Cheeks, and you'll be good. ;) Right now I'm trying to find...how much cartooning and how much realism I really prefer. But I do a lot of simplistic, overly cute stuff (that I don't post here out of sheer fear of being booed off the site,) that's loosely in the same category.
Just keep in mind that people here have this really, really big thing for anatomy. So if you post anything that doesn't have believable anatomy...well, maybe even things that DO but still have a few bugs in the works... Well, just expect it. ;)

Dude, post it. For a while I thought about not posting half of my artwork here because of the cute factor. It's true that you won't get as many in-depth crits, but dangit, even cute games and movies can have kick ass concept art!
Besides, I've been harboring an idea to have an obscenely cute themed Thunderdome to really drag people out of their comfort zone. Even Vyle showed some bemused interest in it when I met him in June... ;)

DO EET Seriously, I want to have a big samurai showdown of who can cause the most girly squeals, harhar.
I'll try to find/make something worth posting next time I'm around a scanner.

I do cartooning in my spare time as a freelancer, heck most of my work is freelance...been doing political cartoons lately...some other funny stuff too, but the people I work for are too picky about styles used, so I now I can do, or duplicate any style out there...which is where I make the moola! hua, hua, hua, soon...I shall take over the world...or not.
