Hello everyone, I'm new here so please go gentle on me.
I spend a couple of months out of the drawing table so I’m looking foward to go back to my rhythm.
The following were made in 2002:

Looking good ac_osorio i like the dragon in the first post.

The little guy looks like the dungeon master from the dungeons and dragons cartoon. lol

Anyway i,ll keep a eye on this thread so post some more stuff soon.

Thanks Vader!

I'm practicing very hard. I've been away from table for to long I guess, no I'm feeling the rush to draw once more.

Check the coloring on this one, tell me what you think...

wow, i really like the coloring of the greenish guy. for the most part, your coloring doesnt appear to have much of a light source.. your highlights and shadows are very scattered. i think by adding a lightsource your work would become much stronger. also, i really like the penwork you did i think its much stronger than the pencil stuff. nice work man.. you look like you could be drawing comic books

ac_osoria, your stuff looks good, so don't ask us to be gentle ;)

The pencils lack contrast for my taste, your pen work looks much better. As for the colors: The red/orange one is too bright IMO, but that's just my personal taste.

BTW, I love that dragon!

:)

Yes it's true when I pencil my work I'm always thinking of what I'm going to do at moment of inking the piece and it shouldn't be that way. (Thats way maybe you are not seeing enough in my pencils).
But point taken!
1. Yes I indeed need to work on creating more contrast in my work.
2. Yes I need establish a more accentuated light source when coloring.

Thanks for the advise guys!

PS. Today I couldn't trow something new, but hopefully tomorrow I will...please stick around.

I've taken a couple of days to study and analyze my work. I believe I had forgotten a few things. Things I use to work pretty good. Checking my Old stuff to establish a good comparison I came a cross with two samples that I will like to share with you...

Thanks guys! I'm really, but really practicing. I'm very well focusing on my work lately.
Here is an excersice I made, the idea was to pencil, ink and color in no more than 2 days (create speed and get myself in the table until end).
Here is the result:

the comic panel has a good flow to it.. the best color Ive seen so far is the orange one with the skull, but sketches are for experimenting so keep trying new techniques!

I really like the concepts you've got going here! And the color schemes are beautiful as well.... doesn't seem like it's taking too long for you to get back into the swing of things ;)

ac_osorio
June 20th, 2003, 12:35 PM
Thanks buffaloe!

I know it may sound wierd but the truth is that indeed is taking me some time to get back. Today I forced myself to work with perspectives. Buildings, people, odd figures, you name it.

I use to live in Garner inside Raleigh, is good to hear the good people from NC!

Keep it cool!

good pics...good colours...take care of mistakes on some bodies(for exemple the arm of the old scientist who look in hims microscope is too long)..but they are good..

June 22nd, 2003, 09:51 PM
hey, cool! I still have some family that lives in Garner :)

And now for something that I find really interesting about the most recent drawing.... The lines of the face are very sharp and angular, almost mechanical, while the mechanical parts are all drawn very softly... Quite the opposite from what you'd expect, creating a very interesting contrast. Just an observation ;)

nice.... I like both sets of drawings (especially the fish!) In the pic of the guy with the sword, the only crit I have is that the left hand looks a bit undefined, but I know it's WIP so maybe that's coming ;) Looking forward to seeing more!

its looking nice.. you may want to try some lighting effects for the fire on a seperate layer..

Rusty
June 30th, 2003, 11:10 PM
some nice stuff there ac_osorio..the tail on that fish works nicely cause yer shading lines sculpt around the form..That last one has this Ken lashley vibe to it when i look at it,i doubt hes an influence though,im suspecting joe mad maybe?..

only crit is maybe less hatching lines and figure out how much the pen should show then save some stuff 4 when you colour it,then again that might destroy your style and way of working...

ah well, post some more stuff :)
Rusty

July 1st, 2003, 02:00 PM
Hunger_Artist - Point taken will do just that, I was thinking lifting up the colors a little.
Rusty - I will like to no more about Ken lashley! By the way you are right about hatching less!!!

wow - this are really great concepts. i'm especially amazed by your sequential artwork - i totally LOVE that chess-page (is there a story behind it? looks intruiguing...) and i like that last sequential work, too - especially the first page...somehow the full-dressed-superhero on the last page looks a little strange - i think for me the chest & arms are a bit too overexaggerated...but yeah, it's supposed to be a superhero, so... ;)
how long does it take you approximately to do one of those pages? (not including coloring or inking or any of that stuff, "just" the basic pencil sketch?)

I like the comic-esque feel to some of the pieces. Very dramatic, and effective. The colored dragon piece is nice, but perhaps it is too warm (orange).

buffaloe
July 1st, 2003, 02:33 PM
oh, yeah that's a god point sic1 about the dragon being a bit too warm.... I would love to see the warrior type guy in lots of cooler hues, like he's just calm and cool, with this fire breathing beast behind him :)

July 26th, 2003, 04:48 AM
Wow, those are great. I'm trying to get my lines as fine as that but I am having problems. Well, my favorite one would be that of the man standing infront of the bookshelf.

BTW:

Not to be picky but Iron Man's torso looks kind of slim. Has he always been like that? Also not to be too forward but, do you do this for a living?

I'm really enjoying your developing inking styles. I'm working hard on developing an interesting quasi-comicbook style inking technique right now as well. I especially like your flowing page layouts, particularly the finished green tinted one. Got any pointers on inking, or any good reference materials?

Wow, really loving the bright glowing flames, they really help push the character from the background. It would be hard not to come out with a good finished piece when you started with such a well developed prelim drawing. My only crit is the light source, in the pencil drawing, you have somewhat defined your shadows, however, in the colored version, its hard to tell where the flames are causing light and shadow, at least for most of the lower body.

ac_osorio

Nice ,very nice, probably my fave of yers youve put up so far...pencils work really nicely around the sword handle area, her ornaments r great..The shadows you sketched around the hair/face you didnt need to put in IMO,those would look more effective done in the colouring stage

Mind if i have a go at colouring it too?..

Rusty - My brother in arms! I know the feeling, I also tried the sucker but is even harder than using 3D Max! Is cool that you like the last one, looking at it now I think it sucks, specialy de body...will I ever color well?

i dont know if its just me, but the blurriness of the colors bothers my eyes.. .the pic is kinda hard to look at. the hair is nicely done, but i would like to see more detail in the torso... the way she is twisted you should be able to see ribs and the abs curve. also, her breasts look flat. sorry if this crit is really harsh, just tryin to give some good feedback. keep postin

not a bad start the AC,but yeah id have to agree with metawinds on this one,its painted to blurry, and there isnt enough tonal range on there to show her form...try pushing the values more, but dont go over board with the black and the highlights..

The last ones are really good. Beside your drawing skills - that are constantly improving - I like your sense for design very much. I think that this is often underestimated.

BTW by looking at your work I immediately thought: spanish! Somehow it´s interesting how often there´s a kind of national style.

Keep on!

complete2 - Thanks for visiting my sketchbook friend! About the details, well I guess I have to thank my father for that. When I was little and started to draw something like a kid on the beach or so, he always said things like: But where's the kid bellybutton? or How many coconuts are on that palm?

Since, everytime I draw I question my illustrations in that matter. The more information I can give from the object I'm illustrating, for me is the better.

Hope to have you around.
Peace!

wow, ac_osorio, I haven't been to your thread in a while, and you've put up some amazing work while I've been away! You have a really great style to your work.... I love it! The only crit I can offer is that the elephant and woman picture has some really weird perspective.... Judging by the elephant's leg, I feel like I'm looking at it from almost directly above, but the woman is almost flat to the front.... does that make sense? I still like the image, though... great work!
