Hi all,

been lurking around for a while now, thought I would upload some of my stuff.

Was always doodling as a kid but nothing serious, but recently stumbled across some of the amazing stuff being produced across the web and decided to give it a go myself, for a personal challenge and pastime more than anything else.

These are a couple of my recent drawings, one a copy of a pic of Linsners Dawn character and one drawn from a photo.

The lips of Dawn arent quite right and the structure of the girl in the photo could have been better (chin and ear in particular). Edit**Obviously I mean the structure of my drawing could have been better, the girl herself was correctly proportioned..probably.

Been going through a few of the exercises in the 'Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain' book by Betty Edwards,

The three hands are my original attempt and subsequent two attempts at one of the exercises (to draw my left hand), quite happy with the improvements so far, will keep banging away at it. The first one is very very wrong..hopefully this attachment manager comes out in order. Im not actually a carnival freak..

The horse was an exercise in drawing upside down thing - check out my appalling judgement of size - I managed to completely crop off the rider!..errmm.. First attempt so I let myself off..

You're off to a good start.
This may help you with those lips and things.

Think of everything as planes. it's either facing the light or facing away. Most times the light is from above so just drop in those "undercuts" and you're most of theway done before drawing in any little details. Shadow under the hair, under the brow, under the upper eyelid, under the nose, the upper lip is all one shadow because it leans out. So does the space below the lower lip. Just knock in those shadows right from the start and you may not need to do much else.

Cheers Tigermilk, I will get there, just need to find time to practice.

Gilead, cheers for that, I think you may be right in that getting values right bothers me because I try to get too complex, I should probably take a simpler approach and then worry about the details.
