Hello, I've been a watcher here for about a month now and thought "Hey. Im gonna start a sketchbook!" so yeh life story.

I really want to improove as much as i can so please crit me like no tommorrow.
(I'll try and update this as much as I can)

hey there! Welcome to conceptart. :)
I think you got something nice going here, like the first one a lot. Try to draw alot from life, it developes eye for structure and reallity based forms. Bring a sketchbook along when your away from home. :)
some advice.. heh
post more!

Tigermilk: Thank you for the advice, Thats a good idea (sketchbook thing) I'll try and give that a go.

Hey, thanks for stopping by my sb :)
I really like this: http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i230/ungapants/wastedwords.png
Your digis could use some more work though, your colors look a bit muddy, don't be afraid of saturation :) Keep it up!

entdroid: Thanks alot for the advise, I can see exactly where you are coming from and I didn't even realise till you said! I need to learn to take risks a bit more AND I really need to work on colouring and digital work, do you know any good books(tutorials)?
-------------------------------------+

Basically we have a drawing project in college at the mo and we're learning about drawing looser (like using left hand, drawing but not looking down at the page, timed etc...) Im really enjoying it and surprisingly Im really enjoying my outcomes. Condsidering I was so reluctant to draw like this at the beginning of last year.. (is my brain improoving??)
Anyway here are a few so far:

A sketch of my dad using Biro
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i230/ungapants/Sketch1.jpg

Here I used Quink ink and used bleach to sketch my pictures on top (besides the marker sketch of my mum in the corner) Basically it's sketches from home.

This was from an old project

Interesting work. Quite creative. But don't get ahead of yourself. Secure your understanding of form.

Thanks for the crits so far everyone, Im sketching alot more and starting to study things alot more instead of drawing from my head (which is starting to become quite a bad habit) I've got quite a big update today, because my internet was down and I was bored so I drew. anyway

A few more sketches here from my college drawing project:
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i230/ungapants/Sketch2.jpg

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i230/ungapants/Sketch3.jpg

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i230/ungapants/Sketch4.jpg

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i230/ungapants/Sketch5.jpg

Um here I borrowed (well.. took without permission) some oils from college and thought I'd try them out. So this is my first ever oil painted....woohoo (sarcasm) I'll probably do a few more if Im in the mood. It was good to work with, but took ages to dry and the oil soaked into the paper, so it would probably come out better if I did it on canvas.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i230/ungapants/Sunsetoil.jpg

Also a random drawing of a guy in some magazine, my sister sleeping and another self portrait (a little more detailed than the last)

I made a post to the critique center with my iron giant picture (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i230/ungapants/IronGiant.png)
and I made a sketch of an improoved version using the crits:

Two more crappy additions. I drew a body for the the sketch of the guy I did above, the proportions are terrible. The second sketch is off the top of my head randomly.

Hey, really cool interesting stuff. I think you have knack for making interesting images, (like this (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i230/ungapants/Smokingprintish.jpg), and this one (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i230/ungapants/Sketch2.jpg) is awesome!) once you get more comfortable with you anatomy and junk your stuff is really gonna sing.
As for the oils, painting on paper is gonna be really frustrating, a cheap way to go is to just slap a layer of gesso on some masonite or illustration board. In fact you can paint on most anything if you gesso it first. Keep painting, it'll add to your arsenal.
Nice line work on this (http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=37147&stc=1&d=1161119099) one!
Keep it up man, neat stuff up in here.

Andy P: Thanks for the feedback :D, I really badly need to buy a book on anatomy and start studying proper, I try to draw my own body parts in the mean time. Oooh Gesso I've never heard of that before, my knowledge of art materials is so bad. I'll go take a look next time I pop in the art shop.
------------------------------------------------------+

-Another few self portraits, done alot quicker than the last two (and in ink this time) I want to practice until I can draw near to accurate proportions each time.
-Hand studies also.. done very badly.
-A study of a eye with a tear in it. Wanted to try and get a feel of the glistening that tears in eye creates. First one is without reference second one is.
-Robin hood (from the BBC series) although I only used the face as reference. Tried too attempt clothes without reference 1. to see if I could 2. because I don't really like Robin's costume in the series :P

Hey cool stuff DoodleCath, thanks for dropping by and leaving me some encouragement! ^_^

Definately try and get on the anatomy, it'll add a lot to your work in future. Keep doing those hands too! Very useful =D I love your graphic stuff at the top btw, keep it up!

Yo doodle
Good sketchbook here man!
Your doing great but i just wanted to say that you should think about ur shadows. Sometimes ur portraitpeople look a bit dirty instead of shaded, u know what i mean?

Keep it up

aph: No problem, thanks for yours ;) Yep I'll definatly keep drawings hands because they are a bit of a problem.
Lewis: Yeh I can see what you mean, I think it's because Im using one pencil when I draw my portraits and shadows tend to look scratch and uneven instead of soft and even. I'll play about a bit to see exactly what it is, thanks for pointing it out.
---------------------------------------+

-More sketches of hands, and a few of feet... which definatly need to be sketched more. However Im starting to realise there is only so many angles and views that you can draw using your own hand... then again I could use a mirror.
-"TRIED" to paint in water colour, came out so unbelievebly wrong, I played about with contrast in photoshop... obviously I should be trying to resolve this on paper. :(
-More very quick self portraits, this time with a little expression
-Random sketches of mum asleep and cats

Yer hands are lookin really great, I like the over lapping energy of those kids of pages. Once you've drawn the hand from so many angles the next step could be to start including the arm and even more of the figure. A hand is a hard shape to get down, but getting it to work with the rest of the figure is the real bitch.
Lotta good work, man. Keep it up.

Andy P: Yeh I know exactly what you mean, at the moment my pictures of arms connecting to hands tend to just look like arms with fingers at the end :S . Definatly will be giving that a go in the near near future.
--------------------------------------+

-Riteo, Been copying this picture of a roman on open canvas to get a feel for tones and contrast. Also to increase my observational skills (which don't seem that accurate in this piece) I also documented the process. First time I've kind of worked like this, most of the time I would use outlines and then paint underneath them instead of working up in layers of just colour. And about the white background... I know.. bad. Find the reference picture Here (http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/upload/img/04663_-_roman_helmet.jpg)
-Sketches from magazines

Im back at college now, so I may start posting work from there when I start to bring it back. Doing an illustration project at the moment which should be interesting..anyway.
-More sketches of hands, trying to include a bit more of the arm in my sketches now.. however obviously going wrong as you can see on the second of my pages...
-Sketch I did on a bus home from college...so...much....traffic
-Here I tried to use watercolours again. I think it is much better than my last attempt. It is a portrait of a model I saw in a H & M magazine.
-I did another self portrait in watercolour, Im really starting to enjoy watercolours loads.

Hey doodle!
good to see you keep it up :D (in high contrast with me ^^)
Im really liking the hands, especially the one crumbled(?) to a fist.
But those watercolours...!?? :x They rox!! not to say that your other work isnt good, but the watercolours are of a higher quality imo.
Good shiz in here, no crits this time :yayca:

I've brought some college work home from my drawing/illustration project, so I'll upload a load of that once I am bothered to manouver big A2 sheets of paper into a a4 sized scanner :nohope: ("or you could just take a photo.."....SHUUT UP.)
Anywho, I have sketches that I have been making from outside my house (finally)
-Views from sitting on the bus
-waiting around in college for an hour.

BIG FAT UPDATE: Finally got round to scanning a few bits of my work that I've been doing in college at the mo.

-My reaction to the word "teeth"
-Another reaction to "big shot" and "prayer"
-"Budgie head" and "Mr. Pickey"
-"airbourne" and "beast"
-Acrylic painting using pieces of card to the word "Pastoral"
-A self portrait I did in my own time, a little less serious than normal :^^:
-Random men sketches from the top of my head
-Another random sketch off the top of my head, it's an anthro type wolf thing.

New stuff. When I get more time I have to definatly catch up on some anatomy. I need to als write a list of all the advise given on here and start to improove on them! Maybe I'll add a bit of college bits in the duration of this weekend.

-A random quick sketch that I scanned in and coloured. I have a thing with quiffs.. and it just went overboard. Played around with blurs in photoshop
-Something inspired heavily by Lucy McLauchlan, something I did in my college sketchbook, worked on top of a print out.
-Another odd thing I did when I was bored.. hips look very very odd...

you have a broad style. Your little muscle boy pulling his underwear down reminds me of the work of an artist from Wellington NZ. i like your ink on paper at he start of the sketch book, realy stong style and imaginative subject matter. your mixed media that you just posted has heaps of potential. it reminds me of some illustrators work from montreal, i rekon you should check thier site out.
