It's a panorama from three frames with cylindrical projection, with my cheesy pocket camera (The view is from my office window.. I don't take my real camera to work). I think the FOV is somewhere near 150 degrees.
Insane: That *might* be a bit over the legal limit :)

It's an interesting way of building.. They've got all these businesses already open below, yet they don't even have the framework done for the top (Even the concrete core is still going up, it's at 27 stories now and I've heard there's going to be 40). You can see all the stages of construction in one picture.

Samsite, i like it. There's some nice light and shadows, all over the scene. There's some interesting geometric tonal contrasts in there (eg the bus's design, and the lettering on the ground) - excellent choice, to go black and white. There is a sense of direction to it, and I like the cropping.
Actually, now i'm thinking a more traditional crop would sit more comfortably with the eye:

seems to me as if that shadow covering the 'O' in out is interfering with the bus aiming to go 'out', because it seems to point in the opposite direction, as if it is re-directing the busses (which it previously did to the bus that is 1/2 out of the picture.

bill thanks for the re crop, you make some very good points, I'm not 100 sure what i was trying to get when i took the photo, it was for the chalange, i think i was trying to make it almost awkward to look at, make the angle chanlanging and difficult.

I like 2 photos on here so far, sadly both dont really have a lot to do with Direction.
Guys, be creative.. yes! But you have to make it more obvious, the viewer has to say to himself.. "aaaah! Direction!"

Until now only Claude's and Bill's photos make me really think of direction.

When I was thinking about direction "gravitation" came in my mind. First I wanted to shoot an apple (or something else) when it falls to the ground but then I decided to use simple water.
This photo came out when I crashed the glass on the table... (I wanted to have a coooool water effect... well at the end I had an broken wineglass...) I still have to admit this my parents
Any way :) hope' you like it.

Insane, thats very nice. Hats off.
Stine and Lifereborn, I love your shots too. This might turn out to be the best challenge yet, if I may say so myself. ;)
My pic was taken this morning in my garden. I call it "Towards the light". I was a little more generous on the editing than usual, but I hope its acceptable.

can nobody see the 'direction' in my photo? :(
Morbid
October 9th, 2006, 10:42 AM
Yes, your pic has a good message. However I think the overexposure in the sky and the composition kills it a bit. I think this motive would be better shot square on, the way the statue was supposed to be watched, since now it is distorted. If you have a chence to reshoot this one it could be great, in my opinion its the one that most closely resembles "direction".

October 9th, 2006, 10:42 AM
whoa, insane! that picture is...well, insane. in the best way possible. :) bet, you made quite a mess on the floor, but this shot was definetely worth it! this is going to be a tough challenge - my favourites so far are sam (because the "direction" topic is the most visible there), morbid (lovely shot and a very nice concept for this topic!) and insane. but over all very, very cool photos from everybody. oh, atlantis: i think the topic is visible in your photo, no problem getting that. cheers,

Apfe! HAHAHAHA omg your picture mad me laugh! oh i love it! amazing! i think i have a new topic favorite! what can i say, it's just down-right silly!
thx for the comment stine!
Morbid: below is the original shot, as you can see (other than the graffiti) it has very very dull colors. i increased the contrast to make the colors stand out and give it a rusty green bronze look. the problem with shooting it square on is that there was nowhere to stand to get a level shot, since it is so high up. also there is no chance of re-shooting any time soon, since i took the photo in Romania when i was on vacation, and now i am at home in Canada. soo, i must make do with what i have.
Here is the original, but note that i am NOT submitting this one over my previous post! (or should i? maybe i'll win! heheh)

Thank you a lot, Atlantis_Drift :D
Morbid, can I ask which camera that was taken with? and which lens?
I am having problems getting my photos to look that sharp and over all professional looking, even though I have just got the canon 350d.. maybe I just need some more practice, or a new lens.
Morbid
October 9th, 2006, 03:21 PM
Apfe, I used the eos 350d with the Canon 50mm/1.8 lens and some kenko extension tubes (for maginification).
I like your pic btw.

How funny - I have been thinking about buying that lens in particular already. It seems as though it's a must-have, since everybody is talking about it! What are your experiences with it, and can you recommend it to me, as a "first lens"?
Morbid
October 11th, 2006, 10:09 AM
Yes, its great. Very sharp. But its a prime 50mm, so its a bit limited. Though I can recommend it, especially for that price.
Apfe
October 11th, 2006, 10:45 AM
sounds nice, I think that's going to be it then. What is especially appealing is of course the low price
