[ Hmm... ]

[ Everybody knows what a cow is... ]

[ I think we're set. ]

[ Think about whether it'll have hooves or feet, or a little of each... ]

[ Think about what sort of ears it'll have... ]

[ Will it be hooked up to milking machinery? ]

[ Grazing grass? ]

[ Lurking amidst normal cows? ]

[ Happy or Sad? ]

[ In the lab where it was concieved? ]

[ As usual, there are many angles that you can approach the topic from if you use your noodle.]

[ Get goin'. ]

[Edit: Took out picture, cause yeah, i probably shouldn't have massacred someone else's picture like that, thanks Mr. Hand]
[Edit again: Actually did the drawing...]
Most people don't know where that strawberry milk comes from. Well... it comes from cows with HUMAN FACES!!!
[EDIT (again!): Tweaked the face, thanks Demdike--i noticed it right before I scrolled down to read your message ;)

edit, did more

Why!??!
Because someone has to be the bull among the unicorns.
But why me?!
Realise you're as majestic and beautiful in your own right.
I'm a monstrosity.
Being different doesn't make you a monster!

K that was lame sorry.

This is a fun idea.

Johnnyhorse: I think this is the freakiest of all the entries so far- even if it is a joke. *shivvers*

ConceptOrk: Nice idea. I think the anatomy and the twisting of his bovine body could be made more believable with some reference.

Mehz: I like your story! The squat and homely bull amongst the tall and fair unicorns. Nice idea- try playing with placement of figures in background and foreground-- use composition to push your concept.

Goran: Nice- sort of "old and evil farmer" becomes "old and evil cow." I wonder if he listens to Country music? I also appreciate the submission of an analog sketch.

Ashton: well done. Check the figure in perpective- it seems to be sitting in the chair but not really... It's hard becuase he appears to be slouching, but his lower body doesn't agree with his upper body's pose... either way, good job. It's hard to put my finger on it- but for some reason yours makes me feel kind of dirty, lol. :$ Maybe it's the giant hairy testicle with three dangling phalluses. This sort of reminds me of a Francis Bacon. Who knows.

Good job all. One sketch at a time! I'll see if I can rustle something up.

Genetic hybrids that live in hidden small farming communes after they overpowered their creators in government research facilities - this one contributes her role a "milk maid".

Johnnyhorse - Is that pic from photos that are either your own or that are public domain? Using photographs is fine provided it is a photo that you took yourself, own the rights to, or that has no legal owner. I'm guessing that you're cool, here, but since you didn't mention any info about the pics, I need to ask. Cool submission.

Mehz - Did you pay attention to the topic at all? These are centaurs that you drew. And they have horns like unicorns... which is just more confusing.

ashton The enthusiasm you put into this shows. Cool weird character.

Crustacean - Beauty! Exactly along the lines of what I was hoping to see.

Ainjal - Another centaur?!? Well, at least I can see the bovine influences, and it's a decent drawing.

TO ALL - Showing genitalia is not allowed on this forum, and I will never require it of you in any topic. No genitalia. This is a public forum and viewable by all, regardless of age. If you are compelled to draw genitalia on your character or creature, then warn us and put the image on a link. Your co-operation is much appreciated. It's not that we don't all enjoy drawing such things on our creatures, sometimes, but this is not the appropriate venue on which to display such imagery. Thanks!

Reverse Minotaurs aren't quite as fearsome as their "normal" brothers. Only recently have they begun fighting to free themselves from prejudice.

A fast one today, to end this day of draught of spirit

A general crit from my side is that I read Cow as female bovine, so all the bulls seems to miss their mark, besides the centaurs :er:

Crustacean I think I wanted to put the same essence in my piece as you managed in yours, partly anyway - but compared I failed in so many ways, congrats to pwning me something horrid ;) (I Qfixed the hoves btw)

Mehz

Waffle - Cheers, I agree the composition was a bit arbitrary and ineffective ;/.

William - I don't see a problem here. The guy in the middle still has the body of a cow and face of a human, even if he has a centaur build. I added the unicorns in to contrast with him and get the monstrosity idea. Sorry for disappointing, I might've taken your 'can be approached from many angles' comment too seriously ;D.

god, I love this thread. lots of cool entries, my most favorite's Ainjal. really innovative. and I also really like Mehz' male centaur and Jtho's human cow. I really like how the body is looking, it would rock if you'd end the drawing...

right nmow I'm at school, done with y work, so I thought I could post something here. I only got 1 free hour in an hour, but tomorrow I got three so enough time to draw some things...

dan illimatta I´m pwning nothing these days dan, but how nice of you to say so! :) Anyhoo, I really like your cowperson, the stylized shape and facial expression. Only gripe is the hooves. It sorta looks like it´s wearing pants. Don´t know if that´s intentional.

I also like conceptorks, for being funny, and ashtons for being weird (I´m not sure it should have both bovine and human breasts though).

hi everybody, sorry for being late again, this one took quite some time...

so I didn't remove it completely this time.
Ps, 2 hours, these guys provide hundreds of gallons of milk each day,

critiques:

Camara - SEXY! very nice, especially the naughty bits, looks great.
Not sure about the hooves though, they're a bit blurry
ConceptOrk - great drawing, like the rough and strong technique
Mehz - nice sketch, the legs on the male are a bit too short
goran - excellent sketch, that's how I imagine a pissed minotaur
ashton - very interesting technique, like the colors and the rendering
Crustacean - excellent lighting, love the roughness in the pic
Ainjal - haha, that's a funny one!
Hamsta - looks very quick, did you do the sketch in MS-Paint?
Jtho - nice sketch, the left hand needs some work.
dan liimatta - like your quickie, especially the face:)
burrito - my goodness, that hurts to watch!
I went for udders too...lets team up;)
Gentrifier - a bit blurry and vague, but I like the udder.
thermaloptic - welcome aboard! good sketch and nice coloring
Skolld - looks very weird, the upper body could also be an
ape's one...disgustingly cute I'd say:)

me's back! I had a long day at school today, so I started to draw some cows and this one came out: the Cowmanoid! some strange guy that wanted to be a cow all his life, and today's his lucky day!

Ramonsk8 - I think that's one of your best DSGs, it has good form to it. The coloring needs a lot of work, and to make things shorter, I will just point you in this direction, Bumskee has a great thread on painting techniques http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47859
Take a look, and try building up more subtle, desaturated colors. I'm not even good with color, so I'm going stop here ;)

PS. I drew a picture up at the top, finally

hey Johnnyhorse,

I'm here to learn, so big thanks for your crits! I know I suck at photoshop, I still got alot to learn. I'm learning piece by piece, and I think I did kind of a good job sketching the cow... and thanks ALOT for the link you gave, it looks like it can teach me something, I'll read it in a minute...

PS: I like your cow grazing in the field:P

camara - thanks a lot:D
pala - great drawing, reminds me of a disney-sketch
ramonsk8 - nice one. As Johnnyhorse pointed out, the coloring needs some work, at the moment the pic looks kind of flat. A more decided lighting, stronger shadows, brighter lights could also help.
Johnnyhorse - glad you did one at last, looks good:) nitpicking: the hair's blurry, in contrast to the rest

Hey Ramon,as Johnnyhorse said, this is one of your best DSG ever.Good work.

ashton
October 4th, 2006, 11:22 PM
demdike - good concept, best in thread imo. truly disturbed yet fits the brief.
Skolld - It looks more like a monkey.
dan liimatta - a like your...geometric and moody render, face reminds me of yoda.
Jtho - reminds me of a character from full metal alchemist, I was going to do the same thing, parts are very strong and dynamic and others are not.

Crustacean - simple yet says a lot. is that grass the cow is eating or tears streaming from its eyes? You captured the weight and mass well. kind of luna lighting.

goran - I am not sure if I like this one as much as your normal delights, but of all the posts you actually rendered a cow to the correct proportions which takes skill.

Well I've finally gotten around to posting something on here. I've been following the DSG since it was in single figures, and while I often participate, I'm a cowardly little creature and rarely, if ever, post anything.

In fact I'm pretty sure I haven't, because I'd know how to post this image without making a hash of it. Anyway, if this works feel free to crit and rip me a new one, and hopefully I'll keep posting.

Everyone's looks great. Too many to crit each specifically. I'll just say that they are all perfect! ;)

Byrd - Looking really good, but there's nothing stopping you from just filling in the rest of the sky (it's bothering me!).

Thermaloptic - I really like yours--a lot of personality. Welcome to the DSG. It's a good place to be.

dan liimatta

Byrd: Feel free to use my concept if you so desire & Welcome to the DSG, and keep on posting :)

demdike
October 6th, 2006, 06:42 AM
Byrd - hard to see why you shy back from posting, the quality of rendering in your pic is amazing. Only thing to crit is that on second sight, the head and the body don't connect/blend enough to be convincing.
colorbeledg - just a doodle, can't say much...
Hamsta - I see, the black, jagged lines tricked me into thinking it, but I now remember that some pencils in painter produce these harsh, aliased lines.
Thanks for the crit, I wanted to mix the two parts (human/animal) stronger, that's why he's in an human embryonal position, but with hooves at his (again) human legs and arms and also has the nose of a cow, etc. All in all, it's a bit messy and undecided, I mainly focused on the mighty udders, probably a trauma from childhood:nohope:
moonlit - pretty nice sketch, disgusting! The eyes let the background show hrough, that's all.
Jeters - As you said, pretty matrix, but you catched that matrix-feel pretty good. Be aware of perspective, your's is pretty off, that is, if these tanks aren't sitting on a slowly increasing hill, but if they're on a plane surface, it's off.
dan liimatta - thanks for the awesome smilie:^^:

Byrd
October 6th, 2006, 01:46 PM
Well thankyou all making me feel welcome. I guess I've no reason not to post now.

Demdike - I wondered whether anyone would notice that. As soon as I posted it I got floating head syndrome. Next time I draw a cow I should use ref.

Dan Liimata - Thanks, though if I do get around to sculpting it I'll send you pictures. And as soon as I've fed my baby I'll get started on the next topic (though I'm a little daunted having seen the quality of your piece, not just in the rendering but design)
