This was a practice in creating animal fur that got out of hand; I wanted to show my sense of humor in this one (hence the smoking pug). Additionally, I finished this a bit sooner than I normally would, to maintain a more loose feeling and not get caught up in details. I’m still trying to find a good balance between a paintery feel and photorealism.

the eyes are especialy well done.
i think the suit hasnt been pushed far enough in terms of rendering when compared to the face.

the head is great, but as manslauter said, the suit doesn't keep up with the face

I agree with the replies; I wanted the clothing to be more loose and painterly, but I can see how that contrasts to the face. I'll see if I can work on it more, thanks for the replies.

Cute painting. Though I have some crits.
The head looks a little flat. - In Photoshop, using a multiply layer fill in some shadow along the left side of his face and down around the chin. Put some shadow on the shirt as well, as the head would cast a shadow upon it.
Remove much of the glow on the end of the cigar.
Add a stronger light source to the head. - Create a softlight layer in Photoshop, sample the colour of the light in the sky on the right and using an airbrush with a low flow setting, gently brush over the areas on the face and head that would recieve the light coming from the right.
I've provided a paintover in case the above is unclear.

The glow of the cigar is just too much. With the lighting you've established in the rest of the pic it would never be that overpowering, more like a few orangy spots glowing from within the ash. Also, it would work better compositonally if it were angled the other way.
