and with this, i am done with the uninvited book! i saved the hardest (for ma at least) for last. i need to work on my complex composition skills. i like parts but other parts just do not sing to me.

Was just thinking that a new foster should be popping up :) Glad I was right.

Here goes my feeble crit. I like the overall mood but there are a couple of things that distract me a little. I am spending too much time with the top left corner. i think part of it is that the light stream is so strongly photoshop-esque whereas you manage to get rid of the computer look on everything else you do. I am also caught with playing forground/background with the wire things. I almost tink if you made them a little more strongly silhoetted it would work better. the particulr one is the one above his head, i kinda get stuck at the light beam, wire "x." The onl other thing I might tweak is the pop a couple of lights on the basket things to the right. just a tiny bit of highlight on the lower parts.

There is a really great mood established with the body language and lighting and the piece is really sweet overall. Nother sweet piece for the book. Any idea when it will be out?

Awesome stuff man. My two crits:

The two girls seem a bit soft. They look a bit unfinished.

The brightly lit hanging lamp/basket is a bit distracting. Everything else falls into this really nice circular composition; it sort of sticks out.



I like the rest though. Very cool! Defintely going to pick up a copy when it comes out.

Only things I can spot are... the end of the gun.. kind of a tangent line there with the red head's leg.. and the red head's face seems less detailed (softer) than the other female's.

I'm just being petty... nice artwork regardless =]

I love the ambience in this one! Time to take a break now jon...you have been working like crazy that's for sure. I love all the negative space shapes created and all the scenery...everything....I love this one so much. So gritty...excellent man.

great job, jon! i really like the compostition! ithe circle leads the eye beautifuly, and the hoses/ropes across the top work wonderfully. you know, for some strange reason, and i cant put my finger on it, this kinda reminds me of kinuko craft's work in a way. maybe the delicateness of the rendering. i'm always interested to see how you progress in the overall visual look of your work, as its probably a precursor to certain trends in aesthetics that will saturate the market a year from now. it must be nice to be ahead of the curve! you are my hero, and congrats on finishing up the uninvited, i cant wait to see it.-c36

Simply amazing work. I've seen your work before, possibly off of Studio Ronin's site, but I'm not sure. Amazing work, I am extremely envious of your talent.

I was just curious, and forgive me, I'm a noob here so if you've answered this previously please ignore, but what are these done in? The details in your work look a lot like traditional media, but then the special lighting effects look more cg... are you combining old school with new? or do you work in one or the other?

Great Piece! The composition is really good, it keeps me focused. I would dig seeing more outside the window but that could cause you to lose the figures.

Hey Jon,

I have to agree with some of the other crits...I really like this piece, but there seems to be a bit of tweaking that could take place to tighten it up. Biggest thing to me is foreground, middleground and background...in particular, their tangencies and focus.

As said before there is a tangency with the gun and the redhead's leg as well as a wire merging right into the top of the guy's head ;) Some of the 'camera' focus seems a bit off....The middleground lamp seems just as in focus as the foreground character. The brunette also seems to be somewhat tight and the redhead is a bit blurry.

Establishing what is the real focus would punch this through, in MHO. :)

That's a wonderful view, Jon. I very much like the colours you have going here, it's not as cold as I have come to expect from the Foster brand. I'll have to agree with a previous poster, I am desperately looking for detail in the redhead's face. It's a wonderful piece though. :)

as always a pleasure to see more work from you Jon. I have to admit though this isn't my favourite from the uninvited work you have shown. I would agree with the comments that the females look a little unrefined and there is a bit of a background/foreground problem with the hanging cables.

But I also think some parts are working VERY nicely, The background circle structure and the foreground guys jacket are 2 parts that really strike me.

In all a nice piece, but I think you could push it a little further if you were so inclined.

fucking dope jon! haha. you are such the pimp daddy. the compo is so rad and the mood and atmosphere, woo! one thing is that lamp or whatever in the upper left is handled totally differently from the rest of the piece, makes it kinda stick out. i might add a little bit of definition to the red heads left arm, it looks a little sausage like. and then the tangencies others addressed. just little things, dope man, dope! haha

many thanks to all for their input. i revisited many of the for mentioned problems. some of the issues people had were things i consciously tried, so as to see if they would work. i hate to follow too much of a formula (what can be done what can't be done) in my work. sometimes something that just should not work does, but you have to break the rules to find out.

once again i will not post the update as it is minor and would seem repetitive.
