radiohead. it's my most natural state :)
but when i want 'inspiration', something different from the norm to knock me out of endlesscirclingaroundregular-ness, various movie soundtracks or long, dark electronic songs by underworld or the chemical brothers. really depends.

anything... broad range of music. but i work at nights so it's often ambient. soundtracks from some games work well... from eve-online, fallout, neocron, diablo2... plus a million other electronic performartists

Weezer (probably the most inspirational to me)
Weather Report
Jaco Pastorius
Kashmir (danish band)
Deus (belgian band, I've noticed I draw really fast and smoothly when listening to them :))
The Beatles (sgt. pepper especially)
Eric Clapton (Lay Down Sally in particular, makes me feel really happy)
A perfect circle (also Tool, but not as much as A perfect circle)
George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic
Dave Matthews Band (again, makes me feel happy)
Everything that makes me feel content. I tend to draw too hard when I'm angry or frustrated.
The song I get inspired by the most is probably Takin' care of business by Bachman Turner Overdrive. I don't listen to BTO all that much though :)

oohhh, EVE online :) I like the music but just can't draw when listening to it.
just like I love Smashing Pumpkins and Rage Against the Machine but I can only listen to a couple of RATM's songs while drawing and I just can't listen to Smashing Pumpkins and draw... I just can't :)

For me it's a strange mix of japanese pop, soft rock, and contemporary Christian music. Favorite stuff to listen to is a band called Sonicflood, most 80's movie soundtracks, and the music from an anime series called "Vision of Escaflowne."

oh, i just got introduced to Tom Waits yesterday. I love the drums in that song, uh... Mule Kick or something like that. Anyways, listening to music that i don't usually listen to is also great, i put out some of my better paintings listening to tori amos and fiona apple.
I think melodic music sort of distracts me more than rhythm.
Music that inspires me to make some of my darker paintings has been anything from a cheap holloween sound effects cd with sounds of women screaming and crying to a (presumable faked) recording of a baby moniter with the baby getting punched to death. i think it's fake, but that creepyness helps me focus. It's about 6 minutes long, and i don't think a baby can withstand 6 minutes of bludgeoning, unless it was a weak kid or something. anyways... I have an automatic piano or whatever they're called, with the paper scrolls with holes in them for the music. I took a holepunch and an exacto knife and added some random notes to the music, and that stuff is pretty spooky too, but then again seeing the keys to a piano playing music all by themselves is pretty creepy. I've also got a few sex tapes, tapes a friend of mine made while playing with herself, she thought i'd like em, i guess. I've got a windchime made with bones outside my window, that's always soothing, uh... sometimes i listen to just regular pink noise stuff. Just offering some ideas for stuff to listen to besides music, i guess. I've also got a few answering machine messages recorded through a violin pickup, those are pretty cool too.
Oh and here's a few bands i listen to.
Jesus and Mary chain,Alice in chains,ministry,nine inch nails,marilyn manson,tool,prodigy,monster magnet,slipknot,orgy,pearl jam,sublime,stereophonics,meat beat manifesto,big black,slayer,cradle of filth,skinlab,meshuggah,rolling stones

I didn't think I saw bright eyes on anyone's list...
conner oberst aka bright eyes on saddle creek records is an inspiration... one of very few real artists/people making real, honest music out there...
lately into son ambulance as well
but trust me, bright eyes and their album "lifted or the story is in the soil keep your ear to the ground" every song is sooo visual.

Hey. has anyone here heard Johnny Cash's new single, 'Hurt"? It's a NIN cover and he does it insanely well. It's the only country song I'll EVER admit to liking, if you could even call it that. Check it out somewhere.

Exo: Cash's version of Hurt is one of my favourite songs! The video is real good to.
While drawing I most often listen to a soundtrack or something similar. I find it best cause they often got a nice tempo and rythm and are made to instill certain emotions in the audience rather than being noticed and in your face.
Lateky I've also been listening to some 40īs and 50's bigband swing while drawing for some odd reason... normaly I listen to stuff like, slayer, pantera, danzig, misfits and the japanese punk band guitarwolf to name a few, but not for any extended period of time while drawing.

For those who haven't seen it, Mark Romanek's video for Hurt can be found here (http://www.markromanek.com/video/14.html).
WARNING: Its just about one of the saddest things you'll ever see. June's recent death only makes it worse.

anything nonlyrical or a language i don't understand, with a nice beat/melody/flow, etc. It's nice to find the right mood in the music that orresponds with what you're trying to put down on paper. Popcorn gets kinda lts if you're trying to put down a fighting scene - unless it's humourous.
and so on...

For me, I agree with Pep when he says "Nonlyrical".
Really it depends what mood I'm in, but provided it isnt too fast, or powerful (Well, maybe in certain cases :)), then really anything will do.
Recently I've taken to listening to quite a bit of Jazz, interspersed with some classical. Cant really define any further than that.

She, but thanks all the same.:p
Jazz is one of my favorite 'tools' of inspiration. it's awesome. But then techno with a gadzillion and one bpm can be equally inspiring to me for some reason. Even tho I get stressed out t first, then the beat becomes almost soothing - like a second heartbeat. Some think he beat is more like :bash: I suppose, but 'taste is like the butt - divided' as we say up here in borkbork land.

I'm most inspired and motivated to do art when I'm listening to Tarantino Soundtracks. Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill Soundtracks stand out as the cream of the crop.

The aquabats are great. If you have fast internet hookup or lots of atients you should got to theaquabats.com, to the media page and listen to the mp3's they have in the omyths legends and other rarities part. They're great. Presidents of the United states of america is good to. and for me I like listending to AFI's "the art of drowning" while im drawing gloomy and bleak pictures. It's good music too. Thats AFI's best one.
I cant really listen to sublme when i draw because when it comes on i close my eyes and just listen to the entire song. I cant draw with my eyes shut, so the beautiful grooves of sublime don't help me much.
