Here is a quick sketch. I don't know where to start improving because I really don't know what I'm doing. Please help me out a bit.
Thanx in advance,
Marty

I like the concept.
I think the tail should have some more thickness to it and a more distinct color then from the skin, but not too much of both.
The person on the rights legs seem to...very odd. After studying them I see what your trying to do, but you need to bring the back legs out more so I think the viewer can see them better. Give the person on the right more detail in the face and hands.
With more detail here and there, I think I will really like this picture. Good job.

updated the pic. Some more detail in there. Tail is a bit thicker. The legs are still untouched but I'm going to bend his right leg so the flipper can be seen just above his left flipper and the lower leg is behind the left leg. I'll try to make the legs more forshortened aswell. Well, that's for tonight. Here's where I'm at now:

Be careful about the reds. Underwater, you're going to lose them after only about 15-20 feet of water (assuming the light source isn't also close-by, underwater).
Also, the mermaid's tail seems to neck down far too quickly. It doesn't really seem like she has enough fin to propel the rest of her very fast.
Very nice mood, though.

Hi all. Here's an update.
Dogfood: Thanx for the crits! I know about the colours but thought it would make it a little more interresting if there would be a bit of true colour on them just to make them pop a bit more. You're absolutely right about the tail, I'll change it later.
Here's where I'm at now.

my crits are.... tail is to short.. it's forced to show length. This makes her ass appear to be at her lower back, and not where an ass should be (past the erector muscles.) if you gave her a little more of an ass, brought the tail down, and then brought it up it would fix this perspective.
everything else is fine.. but that one area really grabs my eye and seems to need to be fixed. the tail is just to high, and it's as if she has no ass whatsoever. it's beyond flat, it's bone. :D just a suggestion. Great concept, keep up the work.

Wow, looking great! I agree with Serena, your adjustments helped a lot. Good job. The only thing that I see is his right eye. It seems a little "O" looking rather then realistic. I know he is probably in a moment of surprise so the "O"ness could be due to that, but his right eye just seems a little funny to me.

ey marty!
Nice update. But i still think the tail is way to short and thin. Take any mermaid from the net and you will see her tail is longer.
