OK, I remember back in the days of the original QUAKE, skins for game models were sometimes made by using another artist's color Swatch set (made from sampling the entire color range from an individual image), usually from a tiny Paul Steed 210x210 texture sheet. Painter (which I only used for a couple of days... compared to Photoshop, which I've used for 7+years!!) was incredibly easy. Just pull up an image, select "New Color Set from Image" in Color Sets and walla! An entire set of colors sampled from an image!

If anyone knows how to do this in photoshop, I will be quite grateful. I've searched high and low on google and many forums and can't find diddly-squat. :[
Maybe I'm putting in the wrong words... Color set , swatch set , extract image color range , etc...

ok, now that im home i tested this out. It seems these are saved as an .act file and swatches are saved as a .aco file... so how do you use the saved color table to use their colors? I cant seem to figure it out. Its giving me all the colors from an image, but you cant save it in the same format as the swatches...
it has more to do with making an image web safe than extracting individual colors

anyone can tell me how i can use these?
Thanks

swatch load dialogue can open several formats, one of which is .act. Use the dropdown selector.

If you want a reduced web-safe palette, you also get a convenient colour table selector in the save for web dialogue.
Hit save for web -> gif -> web snap 100% -> top right hand side menu doover -> save colour table
swatches palette -> doover -> load colour table -> file type .act

Your web safe reduced table should now be appended to the current swatches.

Dude... you rock. That's exactly it!

This saves me so much time than having to go back and forth from a reference photo to use colors. I wish Photoshop could organize the colors better, but I guess I have to be happy with that.

Thanks Snarfevs, I was not knowing about this option. I found an easy way of saving favorite colors through your reply.
