When I create a new variant brush in PAINTER it does not appear in the brushes folder of that category. I have noticed that each brush has at least 3different extensions: nib, stk, and xml. sometimes there ia a jpg also. How do I create these files in Painter 9? I am at a loss. Can someone help me?

Thank you

Hi rog,

In short, Painter IX has two main folders (and two Brushes folders), which do not have identical content. You will find your newly created brush variants in the respective sub folder of the Brushes folder which resides in the User Painter IX folder.

You don't have to worry about creating the nib and stk files, as these are automatically generated by Painter when the respective brush library is first loaded (assuming they are not already created).

For a more detailed explanation of the above, John Derry has written some excellent tutorials (Anatomy of a Variant and the Brush Library Organization series), which are linked from the bottom of this page (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/david.gell/pages/help_portal.html).

Glad to be of help Rog :rendered: These concepts are definitely not obvious unless you have spent a heap of time investigating. The tutorials should give you a much clearer understanding.
