[ Another avian theme... ]
[ ... But a decidely different topic, nonetheless. ]
[ Try to avoid a static, uninteresting pose. ]
[ Some ideas to get your imagination jump-started: ]
[ A visor like a beak... ]
[ A feathered crest... ]
[ Plate mail that looks like feathers... ]
[ Weaponry that resembles talons... ]
[ Stuff like that. ]
[ Off you go. ]

curse you ramonsk!:er:
I so hoped I'd be first this time...
anyway, here's mine, PS, maybe an hour, it's a bit
photoshoppish, but I can't help it:

Oh, and yeah, it's a Stork-based warrior, spreading
fear and terror among all of froghood.

This DSG is just too good to pass up; time to pull out the ol' wacom!
[EDIT] Scratch that, I'm really upset now. I just realized I left my pen 60 miles away. Looks like I'll have to use the good ol' traditional media!
Demdike: Great start. Interesting pose and good shapes/composition of the figure. Took me a while to figure out the wings were the arms though :( (which does make sense!)

Mechanical pencil, paper, color added in PS. No Reference. 35 minutes.
In this pose, he seems more contemplative; not dynamic. Guess I missed that part of the description. oops.

yeah, another great DSG-day! great work, demdike, that one looks like a real god...
knight vision: I love both your drawings! the first one is very detailed, cool weapon, I love the feathers, it's looking ready to battle.m the second one is also great, againw ith the feathers and this time a jet-pack and bigger wings, but hey, what could you expect from someone who's name is knight vision? GREAT JOB!

This is what happens when I have no wacom, unsharpened pencils, no eraser, and a nice scanner!:

I think i'm gonna have another, cleaner, go at this.
Hamsta: I love your reaction. It's an interesting picture; I don't know if i'm getting the Bird-of-prey theme, but the pose is dynamic! Nice spear-head.
Knight Vision: That ray-gun on the second picture is totally awesome, plus that whole left-arm section is done quite well!
TheGnoll: Im loving all the strong parallel lines--it brings together the piece, regardless how quick it was.

Not quite dynamic, but I thought of giving it a shot

Demdike and crustacean are my favourites so far :).
I did more of a muddy mood shot then a sharp detail concept shot ( lazy me :) ), Photoshop a touch of painter and Wacom.
A bird warrior would perhaps in this case rely heavily on talons in fights ( and and feet) and also maybe use them to climb and jump on enemies from above ( thus geting his name ) :)

Hey, Oddo, I just had a look at your sketchbook - nice!
Demdike Stork-based warrior, that´s darn funny. Your image is extremely dark though, a lot of the detail is impossible for me to see unless I tweak it in photoshop. This even more so with the tuna-man image. In summary - one of us are having monitor issues.. :)
PS: Good work ppl, asspats all around!

thanks everybody:D
Johnnyhorse - I agree on the arms beeing not overly clear, couldn't help it
though, I had quite a messy PSD-file and found it hard to tweak at that point
Crustacean - Thanks for the crit:) I noticed that I tend to paint very dark,
it's a bad habbit of me I'm trying to get rid of, but I'm afraid it'll take me some time.
Knight Vision - nice sketches, I prefer the second since it's way more dynamic
LadyHydralisk - interesting technique, looks ancient. The breasts should be lowered.
TheGnoll - good design, aztec thunderbirds?
Mehz - strong poses
Concrete - nice work, maybe shifting the guy more to the left would give a
stronger composition...
Hamsta - that one looks great! Colors are oh so vibrant and brilliant, like it a lot.
Johnnyhorse - good sketch, bonus points for bad working conditions
(no wacom, unsharpened pencils...)
Crustacean - everything on the guy looks sharp and harmful, very cool:)
miljenko - nice lighting, also like the shine on the second one
Oddo - your pic's my fav, great lighting and atmosphere, also pretty dynamic

Johnnyhorse Doing the flamenko perhaps? ;)
A bit too dark, would have liked to see more details pop out. The anatomy doesn't like spot on, but nothing glaringly wrong either. A little more playing with the perspective wouldn't have hurt, but good effort non the less.
demdike last I heard, storks weren't birds of prey, but this is great. Very dynamic, and the colors work so well. Lovely textures, and the initial impression isn't Photoshoppy at all. Only after seeing the perfectly round brush strokes, does the digital glare back at you ;)

This is by far the best sketch I've ever done. I'm very happy now that I'm safe home with my precious gear.
http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k151/JohnnyhorseCA/DSG1120Wacom.jpg
This one's a little more dynamic
Hamsta: Flamenko? Hah, that's funny, cause I was actually going for a kind of Flamengo look, especially with the legs. Not bird of prey exactly, but that's what the eagle's hood is for!
