I figured I should probably keep my 3D stuff separate from my sketchbook, hence this thread. I typically model with a program called Sketchup and render with Maxwell. On my to-do list this year is to learn the main stream modelers, Max, Maya, Z Brush. I plan on posting my 3d doodles as well as more polished finished works.

These are some of my first models ever and I had a lot of fun learning the programs. I haven’t really gotten into creating textures yet and instead focused on understanding lighting and creating materials.

I tried pretty hard to set up the shots in such a way that the vehicles would feel real and to scale but I must be missing something. They always feel like miniature models instead of the big heavy APC vehicles I envision them to be. I am unsure of what else to do other than add people and reference objects to the scene. Anyone have suggestions?

Oh...I almost forgot. The crane design is loosely based off a NASA concept by Pat Rowlings. The other vehicles were designed for a game I play from time to time called Planetside (I am not affiliated professionally with SOE in anyway). There is an APC in the game called a Sunderer that I dislike from both an artistic and gameplay standpoint which inspired me to design something better and learn Sketchup.

Critiques and comments as always are welcome.

the materials look wrong, they look too flat - like the angle of reflections are too uniform and they all reflect the light the same as each other? - the tires on the 3rd black car, for instance look like they are putting out too much glow when they should be absorbing it or something?

m no real expert on materials, though.

it might be the lighting being spotlights, certainly render with some HDR textured skylights, that would create a less uniform glow.

and if you can create a photo-realistic carpark that would help a bunch too, just some nice photos of tarmack and brick walls would do.

nice car, and sorry if i wasnt that much help:)

as russell says, he's no expert on materials. I think they look just fine. Very nice in fact. Russell I think you'll find these are rendered with a HDR skylight and that is in fact what is causing the glow. I somehow get the impression he's not going for realism. Tyres look like the ones you might get on Technic Lego ;) look like solid rubber.

My only crit is that you should smooth off the wheels and wheel arches on the first truck, they look too low rez at the moment.

Really great camera angles, love the A-Team van.

From my point of view, good job!
I really enjoy the color of them as well as the angles of the camera you have selected.
But what if you could pay a little more attention to material things?Perhaps they will be better, and the main object can be more eye-catching with different materials.
Thank you for yor sharing, really eye-pleasing!
