Well hello there concept art. Now that school (ringling, by the way) has started and I have finished filling up one of my sketchbooks, I thought I would start posting here.
now its time for the massive first post. Some lecture doodles in here too, just because.
made them into links so it wouldn't take up so much damn space!

I think that should be enough for now.

Boobies, monsters, boobies, robots. . . It’s quite obvious what you like drawing, and it is obvious that you are good at drawing these things that you like. Perhaps you should draw things that you don’t like for a while. If you can find the beauty in things that are dull or annoying, you will go far.

September 14th, 2006, 11:24 PM
Hey, thanks guys!
Nah, there won't be much monster porn. Though I really do like the whole beauty and the best thing. :)
Also, range is my favorite artist. So I do take some from him.
I would love art history a lot more if it wasn't 3 hours of slides. Especialyl since I have it right in the morning.
boobs, monsters, and robots sure covers a lot, though. And yes, I can draw males just as well, but I just don't that much. I really should do more enviroments though.
Also, Im really tired but Im going to post this anyways. Its one of the doodles colored.

September 15th, 2006, 03:47 PM
This is good work...but I wonder, did you work for these skills or did it come more natural. The clue that tips me off is the lack of background objects. Objects for the shirtless creatures to interact with. If your skill was the result of years of study you would have more things. But I don't really know. Maybe you are the hardest working person in the world.
Listen to an intelligent man. He is around here somewhere, I want to point him out to you when he comes in. He will have good advice for you. I don't know what to do, so you shouldn't ask me. Just because I have the biggest ego doesn't mean I am a genius, I could be subpar intelligence.
Furthermore you should put a warning in your thread title. A warning of mammies. Exposed flesh in line is a brain's interpretation of lust. Are you a girl? It's not fair.

hrmmm, i think the head should be smaller. it doesn't fit with the rest of the design as far as the pointy legs go. actually, now that i look at it, it's mainly the gizzard thing under it's jaw that's breaking that nice clean slope of the neck. just my 2 cents!

Ooh, but that last monster is nice! I right clicked it into my faves folder without a moment's hesitation.
Despite the slightly repetetive subject matter, you are one of the most well-rounded talents I've seen on this site in a while. It seemed as I scrolled down the page that your art just got better and better. First, it was obvious that you're good at scantily clad girls, then it was apparent that you're proficient with pencil shading, then some really nice robots appeared, then some fantastic digital artwork, and then some pretty good color stuff...Yeah, you're good!:rendered: The only fault I can find is your environmental work. The one you posted isn't quite up to the quality of your other work.
Keep it up! You've got a beautiful sketchbook!

It is as disco sayeth.
If you want to see anime done wrong.. you can look anywhere and find it.
If you want to see anime done right.. this is a good sketchbook to be in.
Many people choose anime as a shortcut, which they feel exempts them from needing to know about anatomy or proportions.
The true champions of anime (According to me, anyway) are the ones who have been able to find that middle ground, bringing Anime and realism together.
Keep em comin!

Hey wakkawa, sweet updates! Keep the updates coming :D!
Oh, I'd love to see more organic enviro stuff from you (mountains, grass fields and foresty stuff). Since you don't seem to draw much of that, well that's pretty much the only suggestion I can give. :yayca:

I think I should admit , that I am a big anime fan.And yes I am abig fan of yours too Wakkawa. I think theres always this notion on many art sites that anime=shit , but I am relieved to see this is not the case here, good art should gets due appreciation . My fav. is the monster in post 48.
keep up the great work.

That monsterous pointy legged creature is kind that belongs on conceptart.org I agree with fooxoo the less anime-isque the better the piece.
Great use of contrast and varying line widths make art. I also love that your art isn't completely centered.

I do center my work up a bit too often. I have been trying to stop doing that lately though.
I still have a long while until I can even think about doing this for money. We are starting some basic outdoors perspective tomorrow, so hopefully I can get some practice doing those kind of things.

Ahh the goodness,
You said some time back you sucked at storytelling. I cant believe that. But if you think that your storytelling skills are bad the only way to polish them is to practice, and get crits from the wise people here. So go ahead and practice. Good job with perspective btw.
Take care,

Hi Wakkawa,
I am so thorouhghly impressed with your SB. The quality that I really like about your work is your compositional choices in the female portraits, particularly the girl with the headphones in post #142 and girl with palms up in #159. I love the use of negative space here (The tendrils cutting into the grey is sweet) and in Girl sitting in circle#106. Lovely gestures. You're quite advanced in your digital painting skills. The portrait in post #78 with that negative space in the pattern going into the background is just gorgeous. Sketch/dissolved and slipthenet-Beautiful! Not to ignore your environments, simply outstanding. May pester you with questions in near future.

I personally think your pencil renderings are very well done Wakkawa. Question: when you do the shading for the bodies (such as this one (http://wakkawa.iseenothing.com/sketchbook/jj.jpg)), do you use a soft pencil or do you hatch very finely with a harder pencil? (looks like hatching to me, but wanna make sure) Whichever you use, I really admire how easy you make it for the viewers to discern levels of darkness in your shading.
Also, very cool idea with the peacock dress concept.

dtran: thank you! Ill try to keep posting, but I haven't because I have been pretty busy lately.

I've said before that you manage light and dark really well, in pencil and in full color (and it looks like you've got cell-shading nailed too). I really think it's something you're strong in and I look forward to more finished pieces so I can see your quality in all its glory.
With your latest batch, the only one that stands out is the very last image. I get the feeling that the feet and the ankles look a little awkward. I reckon maybe if you reposition the feet so we're viewing it from the side or the 3/4 angle will make them look cooler.
Keep updating mate :).

Can I ask you how you go about coming up with a new character design? Or do they just unexplainably pop up in your head? I wish I had the creativity of some people, but I don't even know if you can train that efficiently....D=

Hey thanks guys! Ill try to update more frequently again.
Beelow: I've been so lazy, lawl. That scuplture has been finished for awhile. Well mostly, since I still have to paint it.
kingkostas: hehe, I just like to keep things a little bit simpler in some. tHanks!
call0ps: thanks, can and will do.
factor zero: I totally did that one has a joke for my friend who just loves nosebleeds for some reason
camara: I spent so much more time on that one. It was actually a really old sketch that I just painted over for shits and giggles. Ill post some pics of its progress since I actually have those for some reason.
drd: I pretty much just wing it everytime... yeah
complete2: ha, this is kinda a progress but eh.

OK so I skipped a few parts. Thought it was kinda boring back then so I changed the pose and chose a completely different pallete for the finished picture.
and a new picture

I'll still be goin to ringling. Just 5 more days left, wooo.
voxelfog: Sometimes I use references, but a lot of the times I don't. Its not that Im against it, I'm just kinda lazy on finding them.
supben: thanks!
razorb: Ah yeah I love doin just black and whites. A little bit of colors in those are fun too.
Idiot apathy: Thanks. I really do need to branch out more, I say this alot but never do. I'm really goin to try to focus on some environments, because I really need to do that.
andreas: My stuff isn't super generic anime so I guess that counts for something, haha.
Call0ps: Thanks. sometimes I dont feel like I am improving, but then I look at the beginning of this sketchbook and laugh. Some of these are really bad.
