Hi guys, this is my concept art for a challenge on another forum.
The challenge theme was fantasy, and mine was build upon the idea of chinese fantasy (no kungfu, no crouching tiger hidden dragon... those are known as wu xia).
I wanted to build on upon a simple storyline, where a little boy set off to do something, and on his way, he gets to know friend to help him out on his little quest and all. So anyway, the main character here, is the little monk at the very bottom, with his "undead" master on his back. His adventure was to revive his master before he turns into a vampire. The other characters on his back are the friends and teamates he shall meet along his journey.
They are,
on the middle, a male Fox Spirit (that steals for a living) and his lover (a ghost that paints images of lovely young lady as her own skin).
On the extreme left and right, two materialistic taoist priest brothers(chinese ghost buster).
On the extreme end is alittle chinese vampire boy.
I want this whole thing to be very character driven. So I tried a new attempt on my character design. With less fancy accessories that easily shout out the characteristic, I refer myself to short stories of dragonball artist, Toriyama. As the character designer for games like Dragonquest and Chronotrigger, he somehow manage to come up with very expressive characters with simple things like "thick eyebrown" for justise, "long eyelashes" for sexy, etc.
I implement such ideas into this illustration. It's a new attempt on my side. I hope you guys enjoy. And here's the pic.
