IDM 01: Think Tank
Winner: Jeremy
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This tank uses monkey brainpower. I don't have a good explanation why except to say that I think in the future there will be a lot of things discovered which we never could have predicted, so as it may seem illogical now, it may be perfectly reasonable someday for reasons I couldn't begin to comprehend. Also, I think a monkey brain makes for a more interesting concept. I figured that a brain would be better off if it remained inside the skull because it's probably always going to be easier to just implant things into it than to remove it from the nervous system. I had reservations about having the primate exposed in a transparent cylinder instead of inside the tank, be again I thought it was more interesting and I figured that in the future they'll have developed a transparent material which is as strong as any tank armor today.

IDM 02: Solar System Alignment Defence
Winner: Sammy
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sadly, no image available
The concept barely comes across, I may finish it up later if I get a chance... An interstellar gaggle of manufacturing stations drift in seemingly random orbits about our solar-system. Fixed with large 'magnifying-lens' cells, they're able to focus multiple beams onto an asteroid 'painting' their targets to mathematical precision.
Small darts, no larger than your head, are shot out to intercept and plant themselves upon their target. The station's magnifying-cells focus a concentrated beam of the sun's energy onto the darts. Inside the darts is a microcosm of algae and shrimp that grow at an outstanding rate producing excess gasses, causing the darts to 'balloon' up at aquard pressures. The gasses come at a constant rate and are filtered towards tiny combustible chambers. The 'darts' then use their new means of combustion to steer their target slowly off orbit around the solar-system.

Natural Eye by S.E.E.
The idea behind this is simple: people with devices meant to overcome problems usually want to look like everyone else, not a cyborg. Beyond that, a device can and should aim to be compact without large battery packs or interfaces stored elsewhere on the body. Natural Eye attaches to your existing muscle structure allowing free movement, and the innovative junction connector allows for seamless unity between the optic nerve and the True Sight processor. Lenses w/ motors controlled by natural muscle impulses means focusing is as intuitive as ever. The cornea can be removed easily on an outpatient basis allowing for easy maintenance/recharge visits every ten years or so. Restore Your sight Without Setting Yourself Apart!

Originally developed for the big screen, initially to provide a simpler method of 'aging' an actor, the technology quickly started to allow prominent stars to take on parts that they wouldn't normally be suited for, at least visually. As the technology progressed it became cost effective to produce a model for the consumer market, maintaining its link to acting with the comedy/tragedy 'smile'. Unfortunately Internet users have been bombarded by their overly blunt advertising. Celebrity sightings have increased exponentially since its introduction.

Tramp Transport for Total Travel Towards Twilight
While the rich, famous and good travel between the stars, their every whim catered for aboard fabulously sleek and beautiful starships, most have to do with passage aboard self contained units strapped to a Tramp Interstellar Locomotive. The Locomotive's are operated independently of the units which it pushes across the Universe. Once a route and schedule has been published by the Locomotive company independent agents book a unit of a certain mass to be attached to the Locomotive. These Units can range from large relatively luxurious accommodation, similar in facilities and comfort of a luxury hotel down to basic air tight steel containers with barely enough facilities to keep the occupants alive for the entire trip, indeed many unscrupulous agents simply pack as many passengers as will fit into tiny units not caring about the survivability.
Due to the huge profit's made and the dubious liability issues most locomotives are registered and operated under flags of convenience, the Hermes although owned by a large Asian corporation is registered out of La Plaze, Bolivia.

Most commonly found in the burial chambers accompanying high-ranking Legionnaires, these ornate sets of interwoven plates are woven and crafted with such fine skill that they are as visually stunning as they are formidable. These sets are similar to the Lorica Segmentata armor preceding this generation of legionnaires, save for a more striking visual appearance with more geometric and ornamented plates and a much more tightly knit and woven cuirass--finally with the addition of full arm protection. These suits found fewer blows reaching vitals and, more importantly, it noticeably enhanced the morale on the battlefield.

The South rises, no one knows where they got their new weapons from, the light but strong clubs easily pierced our armour and smashed our stone and wood weapons. Rumors abound, some say that they were given to them by their Gods, or they found them at a place where the Gods once lived, who knows, all we know is there is no stopping the southern hordes…
The War Clubs became the standard weapon for the southern army when they came across the desolate remains of a city from before the apocalypse, one of the less devastated areas used to be a home to many car dealerships, within these they found the tools to shape the wheels into War Clubs. The wheels are hacked and battered into clubs, leather is bound on to the handles, recovered CD's glitter in the sunlight banishing evil spirits, and a running total of kills is engraved onto the War Club.

The Griffon 'Millipede' APC transport is a next generation hovercraft designed to navigate a variety of challenging terrain. Each jointed segment is supported by a lift turbine that can be tilted to allow for forward and lateral movement. This allows for flexible navigation capabilities, as well as eliminating the need external drive blades or jet engines, which would be obvious targets for enemy fire. The millipede has two identical 'head' segments - fore and aft - that allow for immediate change of direction. On each are two defensive/offensive hard point weapon pods which have near 180 degree movement. Because the millipede is designed with components in mind, it can be customized to suit each mission. A typical configuration will be composed of fore and aft drive segments, a communications segment (picture here behind the forward drive component), and anywhere from 1-6 troop segments, which can carry up to 12 soldiers each. Each troop segment has two quick-drop assault ramps for rapid deployment of personnel. in development is a medical segment, which will bring state-of-the-art medical facilities to the frontlines.

B.P.R.D Flier
Believed to be developed from a highly modified Horton Ho 231 this prototype airframe was recovered from a research facility in the South German forests by Allied Special Forces in 1945.
Initial classification of the craft proved difficult and Air Force handed the vessel over to the B.P.R.D special organisation for study. Investigation into the vessel showed that the airframe served mainly as a support function to supplement unknown powers of levitation created by the stone at the centre of the vessel. It is believed that this stone was recovered by Axis Desert troopers in Western Egypt from an undisclosed location in the Hyrx dune-sea.
After careful trials understanding of the vessel grew and it was pronounce to be benign. In the spring of 1951 the vessel was transferred to the B.P.R.D operations section to serve as an agent transport. Used by B.P.R.D teams on special assignment to support famous agents such as Hellboy and Liz Sherman the vessel served well. With vertical take-off and landing capabilities and a top speed greater than that of most conventional aircraft this craft is a transport without compare, able to swiftly carry a full team of agents to any location in the world.
Still in use today the vessel continues to serve well although budget constraints limit its supply of fuel. Through its service strange traits appeared in its operation, such as the fact it flies quicker North-South than East-West, the causes of which have never been satisfactorily explained.

RSB - Rebel Suppression Buoys
The Pax Galactica has survived a century of famine, disease, and innumerable invasions. Our iron fist and uncompromising tactics have brought us nothing short of fruition... until now. Public support is wavering following months of rebel insurgency. Apparently, our aggressive tendencies, when enacted upon members of our public, are less than tolerated. As a result, the Imperial Applied Sciences division has developed a new instrument to aid in our controlling of the rebel forces. The USMC-RSB, called the "Rebel Suppression Buoy," utilizes state-of-the-art, less-than-lethal technology to immobilize our enemy without any threat of casualty. Deployable by both ground and air forces, the RSB is delivered, as a compact canister comprised of hyper-dense, depleted uranium alloy. When remotely activated, the cap extends upward, exposing its resonating core. The core emits continual low frequency waves that, upon contacting an organic life form, instill extreme discomfort and illness, rendering the target neutralized. With an effective radius of one kilometer, several of these devices may be deployed throughout the capital to establish a rebel free safety grid. Full-scale implementation is scheduled to take place by the end of first quarter 2281.

EyeChip Model 11-9: Fiat Industries model 2012-zz
The EyeChip model 11-9 is convenient for both public and covert manipulation of the populace. It's small size (roughly 1/4 the size of a grain of rice) makes for easy installation. Transmission through manditory government vaccinations or the more preferred method, general dispensation through public water supply, allows for immediate action in the event of martial law. The 11-9's nano-tech elements process cellular material, extracting carbon and manufacturing millions of nano-chains which extend along the efferent nerve cells of the subject. Two nano-variants are processed. Variant 1a allows for optical interface and the transmission of visual surveillance signal. Variant 1b progresses along the efferent nerves of the body, eventually working it's way to the brodmann area 4 of the motor cortex. When triggered variant 1b can create electro-magnetic interference thereby interfering with motor functions and rendering the subject incapacitated. Current production is scheduled for use by homeland security, North American Union border control and the Federal Reserve System.

Forged from hellfire and the undead, the "Necronomicon Cutlery" can only be suggested to delusional cult leaders or complete nut cases interested in meeting you know who. It is not a comfy set nor is it meant to be. The Necronomicon Cutlery is very distinct for having real flesh and bones attached to each set and spewing tentacles on each bottom tip. The cutlery is in fact best described as a living, breathing cutlery.

The large buoyant forms of the traveling vendor vehicles are a common sight on the bustling streets of the Kyo-Tokyo-Conurbation. Different companies are easily distinguished by their dominant character-masks, reminiscent of the carried Omatsuri floats of old.
Little kitchens nestle at the hearts of the vehicles, a long service bar along the base with rows of seating so that customers maybe carried along as their orders are prepared above. With the insides of the craft taken up by floatation devices it is common for supplies to be carried bundled onto the outsides of the vehicle.

There are actually two types of robots involved in the grape harvesting. One picks the grapes from the vines, while the other receives and delivers the grapes to a refinery. The robots operate independently, and navigate with GPS and built in cameras. The picker rotates on it's axis once every 15 seconds, so it's constantly grabbing fruit from the vines. The receiver leaves for the refinery once it's internal weight machine calculates that the bin is full.

Verpa Class Gunship
As a deep space fighter, the Verpa Class Gunship is easy to produce and easy to fly. It has a single large cannon and stores ten 2.2 meter armor penetrating explosive rounds. There is a laser sight that is used to track ships that the gunship has locked onto. The ammunitions limitation is severe but the maneuverability and firepower keep this particular ship from going obsolete. While by no means a small ship, it only has enough room for a single pilot, so all of the controls must be stored in the cockpit and there are few backup systems. The upside to this is that the ships themselves already are not huge investments and can be replaced easily.

All wheels have an extreme negative camber, in the front the angle helps making the wheel a part of the aerodynamics, at a certain speed the front wheels act more like wing flaps then actual wheels, the huge back wheels have more centrifugal force then small wheels providing a lot of stability, they have less camber but still enough to allow the top of the wheel to almost touch while leaving enough room at the botom for the turbine exhaust. All this in hopes of the widest track possible with the best air flow all around.

Starting in the center, I thought it might be funny to have a futuristic interpretation of a mobile home... maybe illustrated with a cel-shaded cartoon style and an alien low-life coming out of it. I moved to the idea that large space ships kinda become houses... like the extended cruise ship in Wall-E, except that each individual person would have this ship/house (sketch on the left).
Description
(Right thumbnail and final image) I then moved to the idea of a post-war society where dilapidated army vehicles were re-purposed as housing. Similar to how the Philippines re-purposed old war jeeps, converting them into public transportation. Link. So, shown here in the final image is a decommissioned troop transport that has been retrofitted to serve as a home. It is still mobile due to its prior purpose and many of these are in service as shelters to those lucky enough to obtain one.

The ship's mid section is capable of expanding length and width ways, allowing it to 'berth' asteroids up to a certain size. Once the chunk of rock is in position, the two main boosters are fired. The energy emitted by these boosters strips the rock down into base elements, ions, etc. The particles are then collected and sorted by the two large cylindrical nodes, eventually deposited as pure minerals or ores in the hoppers at the front of the ship.

The Celian Flata
From the outside the Cilian Flata design is slightly similar to the double flute designs made by humanoids. History points out that the Cellian Flata is ancient compared to human instruments though but far more advanced. What makes this instrument unique is it can only be played by alien species that have four hands and two mouths. Trying to play the instrument with just one mouth and two hands results in atrocious sounds that are simply unbearable to hear. However when played correctly the two corresponding barrels of the instrument create beautiful harmonic sounds.
