It just came out about a couple weeks ago...

Brain Froud is simply amazing, so very stunning. The book may put a ever so slight halt in the digital medium fad ;) The best way I can promote this book is just to say, BUY IT!

I have the old book, The Making of the Dark Crystal (1983) that I got after seeing the movie when I was a kid. Sadly, it didn't have very much of Brian Froud's illustrations, although the creatures and other puppets were also designed by him.

I'll have to check out this new book. Wonder if they published this one now because of the popularity of Alan Lee (LOTR) or maybe because of Froud's involvement in the pre-production of the Tam Lin movie... Curious.

Ahh the good ol'days. Back when they didn't cram hundreds of obvious, annoying and over-animated CG characters on to the screen at one time just to show off ILM's technology. George lucas should be taking notes.

yeah the artwork in that book is amazing, and the skeksis scared the crap out of me when I was little. I tried to watch the movie again recently, but I just couldn't sit through it. It's a REALLY slow movie.

Maybe its blasphemy to say it, but I think it would be cool if they were to ressurect the property somehow and incorperate the newer puppetry and digital technologies into it. Not neccessarily a remake, but maybe a stand-alone story in the same universe...

When I was young I was scared of each and everyone of the characters except for the big sloth guys... I know weird...

I'm definately buying the dvd.

I seen it for the first time on tv when I was three(83) or four(84). I was terrified yet glued to the screen.

I don't think it's weird that you were afraid of them =)

The whole movie with all its atmosphere and the characters are just.. odd.
very, very... very very odd.

Everything seemed to be so.. static, slow and saaaad.
Awful music and long boring passages.

Sorry if I offend somebody but thats all I remember about this movie :)

Any opinions about that?

I can see how it could be scary. i remeber being afraid of that little dog thing that the girl had. That first scene where it poppd ot of the hole startled the crap out of me everytime.

You have to love that movie, though. The innovation of the pupeteers and artists blows me away. While you know that the larger creatures like the skeksis and those good sloth things had people in them, they did a very good job of hiding it.

When I first saw it, it was one of the greatest things I've seen... I was young, damn young ...but I was damn entertained.

the scariest of all....the garthum(sp?). i mean c'mon...huge crazy bug-like things with crabclaws. they even had shiny lights for eyeballs. and that clicking noise...oooohhhhh boy that clicking noise. run gelflings run. jeez i'm sucha geek:p

but the coolest creatures of all were those landstrider thingies they used to get to the castle. talk about cool.:chug: very imaginative. top-notch creature creations if you ask me.
