I figured the best way to start on getting over that intimidation would just to start a sketchbook thread, and hope it encourages me to stick to my "at least 30 minutes of drawing a day" schedule.

(I don't normally cover one eye, this was someone's character, and i was doing sketches of her for them) http://www.pictub.com/users/2005/11/12/Delight/albums/ART/photos/braided_hair_lady.jpg
Same girl, just... grumpier this time.
Both of those are done via traditional methods, and using markers.

Very cute style with the little creatures. I particularly like the meeting between Jerry and the Prince.

:) Thanks!
I like to draw what amuses me. I figure if it makes me giggle, and happy, that's what matters in the end.
It keeps me practicing.

The scan is crappy because the paper got all warped. It was raining while i was drawing that, and it got SOAKED.

The pelvis on your figures is too long. Try drawing a stick figure to get the proportions right, then flesh it out once you've got it the way you want it.

you are off to a great start for starters your figures are a bit streched out and your figures have tiny heads. make the heads bigger and remember your figure is roughly 8 heads long thats a good principle to follow keep working hard.

I ususally do the stick figure, but I have a bad habit of extending figures as i sketch on the clothes.

Good start and to help yourself out get some bridgeman, Loomis and Volupo (?) books on anatomy. You'll see a lot of improvement fast. But great start and it's already looking good!

Welcome to the ca.org! Hope you will stick to your sketching routine. It really may feel awkward at first, but the reward stands closer that you might thing.
I really like your will to tell stories. The unique characters knocking on my door or the magical paint brushes really starts to tickle my mind. :) You really seem to have nice ideas, but in the end, they could be a bit more conveniently executed don't you think aswell? This get's me to the critics ->
Your weakest points are really the anatomy and perspective. The fatal flaws in your pictures are really not so hard to correct. As silverstri99 said, Loomis or Bridgeman books for example could help you to spot the errors. I loved the Andrew Loomis - Figure Drawing for all it's worth. You might -plan a - pick the book from your library or - plan b - from ebay f.e. It contains really good package of anatomy studies, and some perspective stuff also.
I want to see more of this. Keep up drawing!

I haven't had the funds to purchase a loomis book yet, though i want to. Currently i'm working from a book that does simpler anatomy first, which helps me grasp the general (so far).
I'll be sure to get to work on anatomy studies asap though. :)
I appreciate that the whimsy is appealing in my sketches. I enjoy it too :)

They're great books but they've been out of print for a while and the 2nd hand copies tend to be very expensive.
Unless you're feeling really rich, download the Loomis books as pdfs instead. Hosted here by CA member Acid.
