hi all, i'm new to the forum and i'm just amazed by all the art you all present. I actually feel embarrased to post my sketchbook but I gotta start somewhere. I'd appreciate any criticism because I know i need a do a lot of work to get up with most of your standards heh.

Here's some of my art, i really haven't worked on my skills that much so my abilities are real poor right now. Hopefully I will be posting more stuff to come, I need to start drawing from life..

Every artist has to start somewhere. So, what are your goals with your art? We'll be able to give you more effective feedback if you tell us what you want to get out of it.

I could tell you that you need to work on anatomy, proportions and volume but you already know that so why reapeat what everyone else will say right? Something that really sticks out is your hair. Hair has a deth of felid, compare these two tuts:

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?threadid=259468

they both go about it the same way. I know that they are painting tuts but the concept is the same. Block in the larger masses and leave the details for latter. You can see the shapes well but your hair looks more like straw. Only put the "strands" in important areas. If you google "drawing hair tutorials" you should come up with something to help you!

Take it with a grain of salt though...

Hmm my goals, well I don't really have a goal in mind, except the fact that I need to get a lot better at what I do. Maybe I need to find a style that fits me, or grow to create my own if thats possible.

Right now i can tell my line work is pretty bad, and I don't know the names of everything else im bad at. I never really got into the technical terms of art, kinda lazy on my part. For now I want to be able to draw more realistically and then be able to draw concepts, but I don't really know which direction I should take from here. I know i should draw from life, but anyone have any ideas of what I should draw first that would be around the house? any info would be great, thanks.

Nyx, thanks for the tutorials. I checked them out and they have some interesting info. One thing that gets is that when I do hair, i usually just go all out and focus on certain strands and lose myself in it.

Oh and I plan on going to college for art, but i don't know which field yet because really I don't even know the differences. Gotta look into it.

heres some more stuff.

I get embrassed too sometimes, but I try to keep reminding myself that it's completely silly...nobody is going to judge you based on your skill level....well, unless they are jerks and have some self-esteem issues. I have some hideous work hiding in my closet. Trust me, it's bad. Everyone gets better. Posting is one of the best ways to do that.

I actually lurked for the past 6 months because I couldn't handle the pressure. Sheesh, what a chicken huh?:overhere:

Besides, you've got some great studies here. Some are very realistic. The stylized stuff is also very good, it shows you have an eye for unique design, which is important.

Keep sketchin' ^_^
