i'm doing some concept illustrations and the producers keep saying "make it more edgier"
I can't seem to get them to define me what they mean by that. It's typically descriptions that's full of fluff like "make her face more powerful" in what way? "i dunno, more powerful"
some help is much appreciated. Been in this industry for 5 years now and it seems everyone has a different definition for "edgier"

Ack.
I think the prince of persia games are an unfortunate example of a character getting an "edgier" look in the sequel.

Groover McNab: "smoldering generic rage" ;)
crick: typpical producer that talks out of his ass kind of request. Makes me want to hurl. What he wants is "make it more commercial". or Cliché. or appealing to the common denominator, or "fashion top model inspired". Good luck..

That's a way of him saying he wants something else, but has no idea exactly what that something else is.

In the case of a male character:
More frowning, more stubble and bigger pointy bits.
In the case of a female character:
Sluttier.

right on...in other words...appealing to the 18-24 crowd (and not a day over!) that looks like he/she walked out of the Disney channel...

Best bet is to ask him for some examples from existing media.
Explain to him that such words as "edgy" have different meaning in different context for such people, and that a visual cue will be much more helpful.
For example, saying to make something more fashionable is equally useless, something that might be fashionable to them might be absolute trash in your eyes.
When something like this happens, find a common ground upon which you can communicate. Don't scorn at them, they don't have an art education, explain things in laymen's terms - nothing shits me more than professionals trying to impress by talking in their own lingo and wasting my time.

thanks guys. I have some visuals the producers supplied.
AHhhhh producers.
I remember a while back ago i made some concepts which later spent several months re-conceiving only to basically finalize on teh very early first concepts.
Happens a lot :)
happens a lot when you have like 3 exec producers and several co-producers each with tehir own opinion :)

Dave, They voiced what everyone on the floor (save for a few influencial people) were thinking :) We had a huge kick out of it!

Aline, were you actually involved with making POP? That's cool, even if the direction of the second one went a bit sideways. I LOVE Sands of Time, yet to play the 2 thrones, but I heard the it's an improvement over WW
