View Full Version : Trip to Olympic Peninsula

Went on a camping trip this weekend... Took a ferry over the Puget Sound Friday night and spent Saturday at Rialto Beach. The location was apparently struck by a tsunami a long time ago so there are huge uprooted trees that have been bleached by the elements. The roots sticking up in the air have all kinds of weird shapes and textures. The woods a couple miles inland have a persistent misty atmosphere with rays of light filtering through the leaves... really cool place to visit.

great photos! the second and the last are my favourites - last because you can almost feel how it looks there (i know that sounds strange, but that's the only way i can explain it right now). :) and the second has simply a lovely composition - great repetition of the different layers. the first photo is also very nice, colors are good and it's not blurry or anything. did you use a tripod? the third is really nice, but i like your entry for the challenge better... anyway, great set! thanks for sharing, cheers

These are looking awsome, Fingers. Its always amaizing to see the world through your camera, dude.
Crits :) :
1 - Nice colors and contrast. But only crit with this is that it's a sunset pic:P
2 - OMG! really digging the layerd composition. great Dop effect.
3- Scary!!! Is that a skull? :S
4 - Great. At first glnace the composition is a bit to crowded but the sun rays really ballance it.
Well, no crits,actually! :D

Thanks all :)
The boat picture was taken from the ferry's observation deck with my left elbow resting on the hand rail (and the lens has IS). I took a number of photos with exposure times ranging from 1/2 to 1/6 of a second and about half of them turned out OK. There's actually a bit of blurring on the sail boat in the horizontal direction (e.g. the red light) because it was moving. This was before the ferry itself started to move.
The third picture is a hole in the root system of a giant tree laying on the beach. This is actually the "bottom" of the tree that would normally be against the ground, and there'd be roots going to the sides if they hadn't been torn off... Yes, the challenge picture is of the same hole :)

Nice! Job well done must say.
Really like that third one, the root photo :)
Any chance of having that third photo as a desktop size? :bashful:
My head just exploded from trying to think any criticism so excuse me while I pick up the remains.

Yeah, I just didn't notice it myself before Le Gab pointed it out... (In person it didn't look like a skull, of course!)
