Hi All

Attached is a photo of my daughter and a drawing I did last nite. Can I get you good people to comment on the drawing?

Thank you in advance

Excellent effort John!

I would say that overall you did well. There are a couple things off in the anatomical side but I think you'll get those closer the next time you do something like this.

If you would like to take this a little futher. Then I think you should darken all the values in your pencil drawing. From the thumbs, you can see that the values you've put down on your dwg are too light in comparison. ie. The val;ue that have on your hair is closer to the values of the shadowed side of the face.

Hope this helps!

Welcome to CA John :) Nice work!

The chin needs to be moved more to the left. The bridge of the nose needs to stick out more, and so does the left cheek. Study the eyes in your photo a little more; the top lid of the right eye needs a little more slant, and the left eye seems open too wide. Look at the negative space created by the whites of the eyes and make sure to get that right in your portrait. Pay close attention to how much of the pupil is showing, too much or too little pupil can dramatically change the mood of the eyes.

You made the earrings way too obvious, lighten them up and use those kinds of darks in the rest of the piece. No part of the skin in your reference photo is completely white from what I can tell, though the photo is kind of difficult to read in that respect.

It also looks like you did some guessing on the left and right edges of the tiara. If the tiara seems to vanish into the hair and then reappear an inch or two later, draw it that way. Don't be afraid to draw the crystals, either.

Good luck!

It's very nice, you're definately off to a good start. It might help if you do some measuring first, and your facial guidelines. When I'm drawing from a photo, I draw one thing, like the eye, and use that reference the size of everything else. So the face is three eyes long from the hairline to chin, etc (as an axample). I don't know if I'm explaining this very well. :P
Anyway, just keep at it, and you do need to add darker values, but you've got a great likness going on and the hair looks quite nice. Keep it up :)

Great comments, Out on the island it is hard to get art supplies. I have been using a 2 HB pencil and have ordered on line a 2B and 4B hope they help. This site and the people on it are great I really appreciate all the comments.

Thanks

As someone already mentioned.. darken the pencil work you've already done.

I really like what you've done so far. It's very well placed, and exactly like the picture face and expression wise. Beautiful start, beautiful piece. I like how you're advancing this. :D

That looks very good, the darkening really helped bring out the features more.
