Line art prep for an illustration project

This is just the line art for a part of a larger illustration - which was line art with color added - called "Where's Saddam" - it was a fun piece full of assorted characters...

The scene was a big party with folks like John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn chatting with Bugs Bunny, Wayne's horse was talking to Arafat, there was a band with Elvis, Jagger, Madonna and Bill Clinton with his sax... and of course, Saddam was hiding out. Somewhat like a "Where's Waldo" but not as many characters and a different style too.

This part was done using Painter.
The final project involved PhotoShop as well.

hi nate, this looks fantastic. it is a great drawing of john wayne. where is the rest of the scene you mentioned? love to see it all.

i can not tell at this resolution, is this very tight pencil or inks? if inks i would love to see the pencil work ups.

Great work! Reminds me of the kind of artwork from the old Mad Magazines!! Please, post the rest of the drawing!!

Aw, shucks, pilgrim.... This is tight pencil sort of hi-contrast but still having a little tooth to it (as done in Painter).

The issue with this project was deadline and budget (what else is new?). For those reasons, 1: it did not have the number of characters and background detail that it should have had, and 2: I did the line work in such detail because the color was to be just flat fills - cartoon style - rather than rendered shading.
