Uhmm, the idea is not bad at all, the form and so on... but I don't like the rear leg of him. First sketch is really more interesting... but for me it lack some shadow - to define mass.(These time I'm really into mass, shadow, dunno why...)
Aquarelle is watercolor(hello french speaking friend:p).
Uhmm, use watercolor paper - you can throw lot of water on it :p
Blend color on wet paper - diffuse them for big surface too on wet paper, better result :D
Work fast with watercolor, really fast.
Each paper has it's way to be worked out. Some allow more than one pass of color, other allow only one pass... So you must carefully choose how much pigment you will use for example(no better way than trying lot of paper to find one that is suitable for your taster, mine is Schoeler Nuage 350 or 400gr).
Don't forget you can attenuate color with pure water too :)
One thing to consider with watercolor it's their transparent properties... normally watercolor hasn't very saturate color.
Last thing : uhmm, your green and your blue... errhmm, I don't like them. The green are bad here :D
Hope it will help... continue to draw those kind of design:)
