[ Here's one that's got a classic retro-sci-fi thing goin' on. ]
[ etc. ]
[ Too tired to elaborate on this one, I guess... ]
[ ...I pray that you are not hopelessly gasping for the oxygen of fancy word-pictures. ]
[ 'cuz it's too drousy for such things today. ]
[ And it's going home and taking a nap. ]

Well, if you look really hard you can see the girl sleeping with a pillow. It took forever to get something that might have worked (old planes are hard)

[EDIT] Okay, I cleaned it up a bit

Should have made the plane more futuristic looking. Oh well.

Johnnyhorse: Love all the cylinders. Nice composition and looseness.
viramz: I like the rivets and the side details.
goran: Sweet design and lighting. Nice one.
machzero: Great detail. Like the depth of view.

Flying patrols in the highest layers of the atmospheres is inane, many times no more exciting than watching the glowing dials, and hearing the whir of the internal workings of the displays.

I wanted to try shading this one, but can't seem to get people to leave me alone long enough...
Anyway, this was done on printer paper with a brush pen. With any luck, I'll get around to cleaning up a few lines and adding monochrome shading.

LATER... I tried adding a kind of a monochromatic wash in Paint Shop Pro 7.

Here's mine... this was fun... Done in charcoal and some 4b pencil here and there. Don't know how much it took me, I did it a bit at a time during the whole day...

So yeah, yesterday was good and I was like..fluke...has to be...no I am getting it...I have discovered the almighty texture...and used the same one repeatedly...I need to find new ones...links anyone?
Distortion of those textures is next...what a useful tool...
Goran...that roxxor...really...its desktop quality stuff...

Very nice, Surfacemonkey. As soon as you fill it out, it'll look really sleek ;) (I guess those smooth lines are a benefit of traditional media scanned in?) I can definitely see the spitfire front-end.
Hamsta, Relaxing. It reminds me so much of those late night flights with the one overhead lamp shining while you're trying to sleep.
Crustacean, just plain awesome
Horsefly, Thanks for the compliment. The detail in the cockpit of yours really pulls it off--it draws the attention to the girl sleeping, unlike mine.
Goran, lets see some movement on those propellers. I don't care if it has jets! - well rendered regardless
[EDIT] oh, and ConCrete, this came up earlier in this forum: Try http://mayang.com/textures/

Nice job, everyone! Goran, I think the one with the bent wing is a Corsair :) Awesome rendering job! Brightdreamer, I like your kills.

OK got some time on my lunchbreak so I wanted to try n give some crits...
Johnnyhorse - really liked your plane initially but couldn't make out the girl, looks way better now you've reworked it a bit, i really get a feel for the size of the plane around her too, good stuff.
Goran - superb image, think it could perhaps do with some shadow or something to anchor the plane tho - it's hard to tell if it's on the ground at the moment.
Machzero, Horsefly - cool !
Crustacean - lovely lighting, nice design...like - VERY nice design.
Estrata - like the girl, nicely done, i think a little more of the cockpit would help suggest her surroundings tho, it's quite hard to place her.
hamsta - nice to see you working in the details too, plane looks great !
viramz - that's looking promising, especially for your first PS paint - I'd experiment with working in some darker shadows on the plane to suggest the shape a little more and help seperate it from the background.
CrazyHarij - how did i miss this first time round ?! that's mad nice.
Brightdreamer - nice touch with the little kill-icon things, like the marker style paint as well.
Sandworm - worth the time on the face tho, looks good.

Horsefly- Thank you. Maybe you should play more with glass on the cockpit
Crustacean- Very cool color key. The circles on the wings are out of the perspective,
Estrata-really nice and clean manga style
Hideyoshi-Thanks man
Bridgedreamer-Cool. Maybe to play more with thick and thin inking
vith brush. To indicate the light.
Concrete-Thanks man
Johnyhorse-She is flying in jet mode.
Sandworm-Yes I know ,I did that because of the jet engines.
Mrdigs-Nice catch, I didn’t have the time for the clouds and the shadow on the clouds, thanks
Nice work everybody

Hideyoshi Really? I don't think it's that great, but thanks non the less :)
Johnnyhorse I like the plane, especially those massive exhaust pipes, on a stubby little plane. The cleanup is good, now that we can actually see the girl, but the cockpit looks like it was built as a bed, and that doesn't really work for me as an idea.
mrdigs You ready for some tough love?
Sorry, but this isn't working IMO, I wouldn't think this is a plane if I didn't know the topic, the bubble doesn't look like a canopy, not quite enough instruments, and some perspective problems there...
I would suggest you leave the details to the end. Work more on lighting, and color sharing

Hamsta - appreciate the honest crit, don't worry - i can take it ! :) Had some problems with this one when I came to colour it and it was suddenly apparent there were a few things that weren't working, what I should have done was start again but for some reason I just continued trying to finish my original design !
I keep trying to put the details in too early, doubt i'll rework this design now but I'll try and get out of that habit for future stuff, thanks.

with the autopilot engaged she dozed into a fitfull sleep where comerce migs dived and weaved just between her gunsights, the frantic action juxtaposed against the dreamy slowness of the clouds.
