Oh.. lovely stuf here.
Let me comment a bit. Tonight i'll be reaching home too late to be able to make my SPOD. So... i'm just talk.
Jaku - youare rolling baby. I think proportions and FORM are still your issues - you should try to show up the form more. Try a lowpoly one for a change.
Scratched Glass - wow - lovely stuff. I love all of them.
tcarlson - same. Your stuff is great. Lovely pink! Dope :D
spiraleye - very nice. I think you should also try to enhance your form. The hatch is not favoring you for now. Try a clean approach - only outlines.
Runa - nice rendering - i sense a perspective problem though - the eyes line (see the glasses) is shifted from the nose-mouth line. I hope you get my point.
Keep em coming!

Ob: you are as right as ever. i must admit. trying to get back into these is very tough.....frustrating to say the least. on all of my recent ones i've been struggling w/contrast. i'll try to keep them coming as much as possible.
blackhawk: it's tough. i have a ful....FULLTIME job now with a time consuming commute to and from work. perhaps we can all push each other as we once did.
everyone else: the guest SP section has been an interesting form of documentation for all of us, through the lows and the highs i still think this is one of the best sections on this site. it's not easy to look at yourself often and paint what's in front of you. hopefully we can all keep'em com'n:p and continue to contribute as often as possible.
to everyone new and old, let's keep'em com'n.

Keyth - I hear you bud. This guest SP section was an incredible experience a few months ago, we really had a golden group on our hands that we unfortunately let slip loose. Myself, I don't have any excuses anymore to not be doing these again. I think I lost touch with what I was striving for and every day since then I had been going a little bit more insane. I'm noticing a calming since I started doing these again, it's difficult but it's reassuring to self-reflect while doing these. I know it sounds cornball as hell, but that was the original appeal to doing SP's, kind of a visual emotional diary. Hopefully we can get it going again.
Davi - Nicely done. Unfortunately we've all been there. At this stage of your life, look at loneliness as more of a blessing than a curse, use it to fuel your art. I'm beginning to learn that bit myself after having been distracted the last few months.
Everyone - Let's get this section lively again, time to get off of our butts and get cranking.

Farley - Nice style, I would have liked to see some more control over the lineweights to help the form in spots, but overall a great effort. It's a very fluid SP.
Jens - Thanks bud, I appreciate it.
Roger - Nice SP, you kind of look like MindCandyMan... lol. Sorry, anyways, good job on the rendering, composition seems a little stiff, feels a little too static when I get to the shoulders. Nice job bud.

-Blackhawk: I'm sure I'm more handsome than MindCandyMan! :P. About the composition, I'm more worried about getting my face right, doing these few self portraits has taught me that I don't really know my face. However, I'll try to do something more lively next time, thanks for the crit.
I like the way you use so few strokes on your portraits, gotta try it sometime too.
-wood: Nice portraits. My favorite is the first one, the other two lack a little bit of contrast imho. The shadows on the second one are really cool.

Don't let it consume you - you should be able to have 2 jobs :p
BlackH - I'll be back! :chug:
Davi - i love it! Realy...

Roger - Thanks, great concept on that self-portrait, very nicely done.
Farley - Thanks, it's interesting shit is what I like to call it. Pretty much my mood and my physical pain really helped that one to failure, lol. As for yours, you hit it on the button, exercise a little more control on your lines and it should help pull the form together.
Oblio - I know you will be bud, get ready, we are getting this thing going again.
Ilex - Welcome back, good to see you around again. Very nicely done, a lot of improvement there. Sorry, not much else to say other than good to see your face again.
Jaku - That third one is nicely done.
Adam - Welcome and nicely done.
Sorry my comments aren't too fulfilling, my back is in it's full bitchfest right now. If I turn any certain way I get needle pains down my lowerback and legs. This sucks.

-Jaku: I've used recycled paper in the past, kinda liked its texture.
-Adam Carnes: Nice one, I think than it lacks some angles too.
-farley13: why don't you try with smaller strokes? you'll get more control I think.
-ilex: nice, my only crit is that the hair blends too much with your head shadow.
-Blackhawk: great one! very organic, I like it a lot.

small trick - got some net using my mobile to post this :D
It's not much and i'll be short on comments but just wanted to say it before bed.
If it is to move things here the way we did , we have to blow some kick ass stuff - long hours portraits, high detail, new techiques, comments, and something none of us did before.
Think of a way to draw/paint your mug like you haven't done yet.
And work on it.
I want to see a 5 star rating to this thread too :D
BH - be well my friend!

Yeah, this sucks, the back is the one part of my body I didn't want to screw up. It almost completely immobilized me the last two days, today it was better, but the pain was more centralized now instead of being all over. I think I tore something, doctor isn't sure either. I have physical therapy for the next couple of weeks starting tomorrow and if it doesn't get better I go for an MRI. lol, oh well.
Oblio - Thanks bud. Good to see your mug, where's the goatee?:D
Not much for me to comment on today, I'm a mess, but great job guys.

keyth-more darks and lights, needs modeling for better form(apply more brush strokes) and the hair seems out of place. Interesting shapes on the earphones.
blackhawk-push the contrast, to many middletones, awkward black form on side of face, alot of dead space in the white area.
oblio-sloppy linework(think of lineweight);thick and thin line variety, extra contrast and the neck anotomy is off(give equal amounts of attention to all of the figures form).
roger-nice dimension and hatching.
ilex- too blurry and lack of contrast, maybe work with more opaque paint application; don't be scared to jump into your work or it will never get finished.
farley13-lift up your pencil when drawing(lineweight is weak), sloppy marks, try to follow the form, thick and thin lines, try using a tinted tool(pencil) for laying in highlights on toned surfaces. tangent with the chin and neck intersection-more anatomy studies.

i accidentally hit my reset button and i'm starting over. here's a contour drawing of my head.
http://www.botticeli.com/portraits/2003/06.25.03.JPG
adam: thank you for taking the time to critique my drawing. i will try more opaque paint application in tonight's portrait.
i love the color scheme and application of your last portrait (the wide open mouthed head). the eyes seem unfinished, though. this latest one is interesting and again i like your choice of color but the yellow highlights on the face seem out of place. maybe it's their blurriness in comparison to the sharp black outlines.
blackhawk: nice to see you too! sorry you've been feeling so ill. i enjoyed your portrait with the black hole eyes. while i think your latest one is beautifully done (i particularly like the nose) i just don't get the same emotional response. but then again you obviously weren't feeling the pain as much.
oblio is losing weight? or is it just the lack of hair on your face?
k enough stalling. have to go start the day.

oh - thank you adam.
I have to pay more attention to what i'm doing.
i must admit that i'm in a period when i'm always in a hurry and all i want is just to keep my hand still on the paper at least once a day.
I feel like i need to draw 10x more and only to better make the hand listen the mind, and train the eye a bit more.
Yet the time is abitch and (why not say it) the priorities are shifted a bit these days.
Just hang on to me guys.. i'll be back one day in full. At least that's what i dream for...
thx again.
I'll try to watch it next time! I seemed happy just with the form and proportions. Also i experiment with the pencile - the way i grab it and how i stroke.
A lot of it doesn't go posted but that last sp is just ... a doodle.
I wish i have the time to draw and paint at ease! :(

blackhawk, I've been noticing that the eyes in most of your self portraits seem to look a little small and sometimes a little far apart. Just thought I'd point it out to you. Its subtle. Besides that, keep up the nice work.

Cire - Thanks. Yeah, I still have a lot of my problem spots, every SP is a new challenge and I have some perpetual problem spots that I still haven't fixed. Thanks for pointing it out though, thanks.
Endregan - Thank you. Nice SP's, be careful of the head mass and proportions. Looks like some of the features are extending too long, or not being positioned right. Just be mindful of what you see when you look in the mirror and don't be afraid to measure. Keep it up.
Roger - Nice SP, hand anatomy looks odd to me, but overall nicely done, good line quality in this one.

blackhawk: good to see you posting. i like the 27th, pretty cool stuff. lookin forward to seeing more
endregan: keep an eye on those proportions, your work is getting better, but just make sure you measure stuff out and line it up.
here is one i've been working on over the past few days. started out in color but i converted it to greyscale. i originally had this grand idea of having it wider with my hands pulling back another face, but i really couldn't get it mapped out properly...anyone wants to attempt an overpaint can be my guest
