Something I've been working on in my free time. Covenant destroyers/personnel carriers lay waste to space marine holdouts in a destroyed urban landscape. Master Chief suggests holding fire until the appropriate moment.

very preddy ^^

the bottom left bit seems way unfinished, while painterly is awesome it kinda leaves it a little unbalanced, but dun get me wrong its way cool ;)

Damn, this is beautiful. Where were you when they put together the graphic novel...this is just as good, if not better than some of those artists' interpretations. This is going into a folder... a halo like me couldn't live without it. Keep up the awesome work.

Nice composition and lighting :)

I'm not familiar with halo too much, the the chief appears gargantuan compared to the other soliders. Is he supposed to be so big?

Good point... MC is pretty big in the screenshots I have for ref; probably an extra head tall, like 7 or 8 feet, but probably not quite as big as I've shown him here.

Nice staging - If I may - couple of things here and there might help push it even more.

About the color - the saturation (or just the deadly 1-2 combo of hot pink and olive green) of the soldier and machine in and of themselves and compared to the suroundings seems to be too much. Its a good way to bring attention to your subjects but they stick out too much and dont feel like part of the piece...
Are those the colors of the subjects in the game? The hot pink next to the fire doesnt work either.

I would overall further separate the values of the FG and middle ground cause if you blur your eyes its start to blend all together...

The culprits seem to be:

-The detail of the texture of the broken ground in the middlegrounf- knock it back a bit.

- the light hitting the top surface of the rock wall (behind which they're crouching) - tone that down - more toward silhouette with stronger more unified graphic shapes.

- The value of the tip of the gun - too bright. Darken that and instead lighten the area around it and brighter as you move towards the center of the machine.

-You have another light source nearer to the viewer (hitting the back of the gun and the hero) which takes your eye away from the focus in the center.
Its nice to have another light source but have it be more of a raking light maybe coming in from the cracks in the roof? Or hitting certain parts of the Fg to suggest detail.

- Detail of the soldiers: move more towards silhouette for the above reasons

Basically -overall - if you darkened everything in the Fg with slight hints of detail coming through- the soldiers, gun, etc...things would be more unified.

thats my .02 - hope that makes sense

Major kudos my friend, great piece. I'm still bitter about the ending to the second one but I can muster up the strength to say this is great. I would take the crtis already stated and turn this sucker into a portfolio piece.

You've captured the look of covenant architechture and design PERFECTLY. I wouldn't be surprized to see something like this in the 3rd game (Hell, I WANT to see this in the third game.)

Excellence. I did notice the lack of finish in the bottom corner, but it's more that you didn't even properly block out the soldiers. Just to resolve it once and for all, the designers wanted Master Chief to be seven feet tall. cf. p 5, The Art of Halo: Creating a Virtual World

Yeah that struck me right in the face too. Are these your concepts or are they all 100% bungie?

Great lighting and composition in the piece anyhow, tho I agree with rascar that the pink and the explosion do NOT go together very well.

give us more of this loveliness!
