I don't normally do this, post work in progresses that is.

The problem is I tend to let the images evolve as I paint, ergo what you see at the halfway, (Or in this case the quarter way) point won't be much like the final. AND I feel revealing a piece halfway through tends to lessen the impact the final has on a viewer.

However, I'm bored, it's late and I particularly like the way this is coming along so I thought I'd share.

Enjoy!

Imp head I can understand what you mean with the impact and not showing WIPs of ones stuff, but for us wannabes it is so much more interesting than seeing just the final pice! thank god you are bored!
Some time a ago you uploaded a wip of arobot with a blender and that was one of the bedst post here on concept art, and I have often opened the wip to study it, so thank you for that one to!
Hope to see the final of this one soon! Th BG seams very interesting..it reminds me of a D.Gincola painting for the cover of a book called "psycohistorical crisis" or something like that.

Where do you get your inspiration for the retro look of your robots ? I really enjoy your kind of whacky robots :) Have you had the chance to see the last Spectrum ? There was a couple of really nifty little sculpted retrobots in there ! :)

Thats lovely Imp Head, though i wouldn't be concerned with showing a WIp. I agree with R_M's view.

is it digital or traditional?

Keep it up fella!

Thanks so much for this. I like the impact of a final piece but I think that a lot of us treasure this more. Please keep this thread going!

hey brian, glad i checked the works in progress section. this is probably all to frequently ignored by the members.

post as much as you can with this piece. i agree with you that it is looking good, i would say fantastic! it will be nice to see it evolve. probably a good lesson for us all not to be so tied to a finished version and let a painting take us where it needs to go.

Thanks all for the comments. Like Jon said in his WIP of the pig pile even us "big dogs" need a shove now and again. In fact it was his post that was really the inspiration to show this git half done. If I had the motivation I'd be king... and I aint the king.

R_M - Yeah that WIP has been one of the best things I've done. I've had more comments about how that has helped people than all my other stuff combined. Sometimes we're blinded by all the stuff we can do and don't appreciate the fact that there's a method to the madness that others can't see. The blendboy WIP is always available on my site AND if there's anything you need/want to ask I don't believe in keeping secrets.

egerie- Uh, I was IN the last Spectrum ;) But yes, I know the artist of which you speak, (I mean I know of him I don't know him personally.) The inspiration comes from a variety of sources. First and foremost I owe a lot to Mr. Foster for planting the seed in my head. The rest of it is just an all consuming passion for finding the "beauty" in the things around us. I mean have you ever looked, even moreso been moved, inspired, and empassioned by a telephone pole? An iron? A brick wall? The elements I put in my pieces are all there because I have felt a certain affinity towards them. Art is, I believe, about conveying emotion, about moving a viewer and our inspirations are just an extension of that same said emotional draw in reverse. Learn how to open your eyes and your mind to the world around you and your art will grow by leaps and bounds.

Nibz- It's tradigital. I know that sounds like a bit of cop out but it's a phrase a group of artists, (myself and Jon F. included... Either Artdog or Radius Jon, I can't remember which.) came up with to describe a painting done on the computer but with a "classic" skill set. Essentially I try to avoid all the more obvious computer "tricks" such as layers, lighting effects, filters, etc. because I'm trying to achieve a certain look to my images and I feel that obvious computer enhancements detract from that look. Therefore I've developed my technique over the years to incoorperate both aspects of drawing (Traditional) and the computer (Digital)... Tradigital!

And thanks again to the rest of you for the creative infusion.

Imp is back! Good to see some new work from you. What I really like is the simplicity of the robots you do. The skill and technique you use is what I marvel at, not at the complexity of the design. What I mean is that so many people draw robots and see them as immensely complex and intricate machines with a lot of circuits and miniscule technology. While yours are simple shapes with great composition and environments.

Your style is what captures my eye. Hell I stared at the refrigerator in the background of one of your pieces because I loved the texture you created.

Thanks for posting this, and please post some subsequent steps if you get the time.

hehe, I like the eyes, they're swell. Anyways, nice to see you in the WIP section. You got some great stuff, I guess there is no need to tell you to "keep it up" anyways, laterz.
