I was chatting with an online friend about my future career thoughts today, and I told him about how I wanted to be a 3D modeller for games, specializing in environment modelling, and we got talking about where I wanted to go to college.

I currently live in the UK (we call it university here by the way), and we got chatting about colleges in America and the idea of going to America to get my degree. I thought this COULD be a possibility, as it could be an excellent experience, especially since I'll probably end up working over there.

What do you guys think of the idea of going to America to study compared to staying in Britain, whether it would be worth it, any good courses matching my needs available etc?

Cheers, Naoko.

Well, if you're willing the spend the bucks, Ringling School of Art and Design has an excellent reputation as an animation school. As of this school year, they have a new Game Art major. On top of that, one of the main companies that loves to hire out of Ringling is EA. :)

Just as an fyi, in games, you cant get a job just as a modeler. You also have to be very good at unwrapping and texturing what you model. In film, you might find some modeling jobs, but they'll also probably be some of the most sought after and will have the most competition for them.
