Very good use of values, shadows and lights. A wonderful display of anatomical skills, although I feel the queen/princess has a face that is not the same quality as the rest of your work. I love the cloth. More plz.

Kaktuzlime: Thanks, yeah her face had some problems, I eventually turned it into a digital painting and I needed to transform and distort it all around.

Jebus christ. Your drawing technique isn't just good, it's interesting as well. Mind telling me what medium you used on that last sketch, or is it just photoshop?

miguelslo: Thanks!
aprat: Its this pastel-type stuff called "Yarka Sauce" They sell it in these wood boxes, with 10 assorted values in nuetral earthy tones. They're very soft and buttery. All are done on cheap newsprint, building the vaules from dark to light overtop of eachother. here are 3 more done in the same way...

You have pretty good technique, so that gets my approval.
But. You. Need. To. Stop. Drawing. Naked. People.

J.Peckham: Thanks! I uploaded a higher-res version.
darkelement:Hey, thanks yeah thats was a weird pose some things are probly way off.
Cigaro:Thanks dude!
softocean: Yeah, I love me some crosshatching. I went to the Met in NYC recently and saw some rembrandt etchings with hatching that made me :xpld:
Goodbye..fromthevoid: Haha no way, how are you supposed to learn the anatomy or correct proportions with all that fabric in the way?
ArtZealot: Thanks man, and yeah shes pretty big but its nice to learn how to draw different body types.

Very cool stuff! I like your life drawings, and I admir your great control of different media as you shown in this thread, in particular I love your pencils.
Only one critic, if I can permit this hazard, is in your characters without references. Infact like this http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=49494&stc=1&d=1163546588
the figures seems rigid and without energy, instead the energy that you put in your life drawings.
Keep more of this quality works

kuroart-- Thanks, I will.
Aphex™-- Thanks, I am usually a little hesitant to play around with the eyes too much I think I'm afraid of messing it up. But you're right I should add little more reflections and definition to the eyes. Maybe I should sit closer to the model to get a clearer look at the eyes. Thanks!

Wow such elegant life studies :) I really like how you can capture simple form and subtle changes in tonal value... mmm... you use chalk pastel, right? I always find I get that stuff all over my hands and get nasty fingerprints all over my arts.
So... let's see sommore of your concepts eh? :D
Faxtar
January 28th, 2007, 11:29 PM
Dreamworker:: Thanks man.
designboot:: Thanks, will do.
bunny:: I used to use pastel, everything after November 3 is charcoal on smooth newsprint. I usually don't have a problem keeping fingerprints off my arts, keeping it off my face is another story. I def. need more concepts though, good point, thanks!

Very nice rendering and technique. A lot of improvement since the beginning too. The structure isn't quite as consistent, keep trying to push that with your line drawings. If you can nail that 3d volume in your line drawings, it'll be that extra little bit to turn good drawings into great ones. Overall, really nice looking SB.

I think your studies are really good. Very clear understanding of shape, form and lighting. However, I feel that you are very weak in constructing your own figures without reference. Try to practice building your heads from basic shapes as shown in Loomis' figure book. Also, Bridgeman's life drawing may be helpful as well for drawing the body using construction methods.
My sketchbook is here (http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=71080)

Treks: Thanks, no real time limits, most of the oil portraits are 3hrs long just because thats how long the painting class was.

Hey all, I just made a post in the CC section with some new art, check it out here, http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=121006
Also here is my entry for LMS. Its beauty and the beast, I illustrated this part from the the story "When Belle returns to the Beast's castle late, she finds him dying in his rose garden, his broken heart killing him." (from the wiki entry) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beauty_and_the_Beast I figured his castle should be dieing as well, breaking into small pieces that fly into the sky and being over run by fast growing plants. Beast is based on the mythical creature The Manticore http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manticore (Edit: Added a concept sketch I did for the beast)

I really love your oils, especially this one (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=217396&stc=1&d=1192237311) . The strokes on the forehead are just flawless. Also I love the way your eye looks in your self portrait. My crit for today would be that on a couple of these you should have spent a tiny bit more time getting the structure perfect before moving into rendering. this (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=159437&stc=1&d=1182831396) is a good example where the womans left eye is too low. Just keep up this pace and you'll fast improve. The LMS piece is excellent too.
Oh, an i got you up to 5 stars:D. It would be cool if you could check out my sb sometime also.

Cepro:: Thanks, very true, you can never do enough life drawing.
DoctorPencil:: Thanks, I enjoy doing portraits.
Miles_:: For that peice with the strokes in the forehead I had a lot of help from EM Gist (http://www.erikgist.com/) one of my teachers at Watts Atelier. I worked on that painting in one of his classes for two and a half hours and then he came in with a brush full of turp and made the peice ten times more awesome in about 10 minutes.
Frank:: Thanks, yep just got to keep plugging away.
Here is some more stuff, gray scale style. Hands and feet studies. A character I designed for a story I made up about a detective in a future where computers are capable of reading memories. And a post apocalypse wasteland type environment with and girl and a black cat.
