Ok, i'm having vacation now, the exams are over and i didnt get hurt much ... i might even leave school with a diploma :D
We'll see.

But now i finally have some more time on my hands, i'm gonna be doing what i like most, so (except making music) i'm gonna be drawing more (yay!).
I'm gonna desperately try to get at least a bit better :)
I doubt it, but we'll see, too :)

Anatomy stuff out of Bridgman's Complete guide to life drawing:

I'm looking for some life drawing classes or drawing classes, but i cant find any i can afford... The only one i could afford - - well, it was filled with grannies drawing teddybears. I'll keep looking :)

As always, i thought it would be easier then it is :( :D
I do love them though... i got some second hand pastel supply leftovers from a friend of my parents and i bought some of my own.

I'm now reading the book "De lage landen in pastel" it's a dutch book about landscape drawing.
Anyone other good books or sites about pastel drawing and color theory?
.

I first did an apple (my first still-life in color...err, firstest still life ever:! ) :
about 30-40 minutes, i think i rushed it too much

Because it looked like...erm...i mean. because it didnt look as good as i wanted to ( :) ) i did some technique stuff out of the book:

I think i make my pastel drawings too small.
The drawing is about 1/4 of an A4 sheet ( i wasted money by placing it right in the middle, d'OH!).
The top and bottom look a bit bad, but i'll do better next time!

And give me some tips, info, crits, anything
I mean, one of you 80 people who looked at this could have said something :(

Hey coriat

The portrait... you should try to spend more time on them. Especially during this stage of your drawing career. Try to sit down and spend at least 8-10 hours on your portrait. Use all sorts of techniques to arrive at the correct proportions.

Hi coriat,
Nice work on the anatomy studies.
I agree with Mic on the portrait, but i just think you need to put some more study in portraits. One good book i found is "Louise Gordon - Portret en figuurtekenen". one of the main problems is a wrong distribution of shadow. The upper lip would be darker compared to the lower i guess, instead of the other way around.

If you find some good life drawing courses, i'll be pleased to hear it from you. I also live in the Netherlands and i'm desperately looking for some good classes. I've never attended one and i feel i really should.

About color theory - i have some books that partially cover some stuff about color:

Rosalind cuthbert - portretten schilderen
David carr - naaktmodellen schilderen
Lucy watson - schetstechnieken

you might be lucky in some discount bookstores(they're cheap books) but i'm not sure if there's something in it for you.

thanks.
I'll look those books up in the library.
I'll also try to spend more time on my drawings :)

Here is another pastel:

I pick the wrong colors, and i have no idea what i am doing, but well, it looks better then the apple :p

My easel project is nearing it's end!
I'm just 5 hours of work away from having a huge, homemade easel!
It was a LOT more work then i had imagined, but it was worth it, now if only i had an idea of what to do with it i'd be even more happy :D

Hey Coriat, good initiative

<dutch>

</dutch>

Good to see practice! The circles need work though ;-)
