Blah, Blah, Blah…

Onto the work.
The following is a representative set of my work at this stage -- including sketchbook material, life drawing work, and various digital composites from the last 6-10 months. I hope that this might spark some ideas, be at least mildly entertaining, and possibly elicit some feedback/criticism.

I really like your work. It's very Kabuki. I'd like to see more of the Ink/ watercolor style myself.-GREAT THREAD-

Here is a page-by-page unadulterated version of my current sketchbook. I made this with some miscellaneous materials that I had laying about. The internal pages are Canson of various colors, so they are pretty durable and take wet-media pretty well.

Here you go, I hope that someone enjoys it.

Lots of cool stuff here. I'm diggin your stylization of the femmes. In some cases the placement of the facial features looks weird though. Totally diggin your calligraphic work. post more of that if you have!
Your sketchbook looks cool.
Keep 'em coming.

fedezz -- Thanks! Yes, my placement of facial features is a bit erratic. I'm trying to work on that more. The calligraphic work is something I've just started with, and I hope to work more of that in here.

Here is another spread.

Jens - Thanks! I do have to work on figures! I draw them a lot in larger format with charcoal, but not so much in my sketchbook. I have to work more of them in there.

The Workshop in SF was again a great learning experience! I think there is just something about getting a lot of artists in one location working. It seems as if you are learning through osmosis sometimes.

I attended 2005's Sf Workshop as well and I was sort of bummed by that one, realizing how much work I had to do to make my work into the kind of work I want to do. Having a wife, kid, and house, as well as a successful Graphic/GUI studio doesn't leave much time to be an art student. Still I am not complaining…

This year I saw that my work, and my self, had actually changed a lot, and I finally got a glimpse of where I was going. I mean I could literally see a destination. That in itself is a great motivator.

Here is another sketchbook spread and some sketches from the Workshop. I also had 2 atrocious oil sketches/painting but I didn't want to munge up my scanner -- maybe at some later date…

Very beautiful and inspiring work. Can you post a step by step on making your own sketchbook, if it's not too much trouble?:bashful:

awesome works. love the figures and faces. the only thing I can say on some of the faces is that the eyes seem to be placed too far apart. that's about all i got. cant wait to see more.

betterdayz -- Thanks! I'm going to be incommunicado for the next couple of weeks (holidaze, vacation) but when I get back I will try and put something together! Until then check out this link, there is some good stuff linked to it!

kuroart -- Thanks! -- And you are right it is something I am trying to keep my eye on ;). I used to make the nose too long. The whole process is a complex prospect and it takes some time to work with it all, still thanks for the feedback!

Here's another from the last day or so. It's based on a Ceolacanth -- a fish scientists were sure was extinct for millions of years -- until it showed up off the coast of Africa in the 40's! Goes to show you how much we don't know -- even if we think we do.

I put it on the page with the intention of doing other drawings on the spread as well, but I think it works better on it's own. Maybe I'll go back in a couple of days and add some to it or finish it more.

asoir -- Thanks for the compliment! Who is this "ronin" you are referencing? Is there an artist here on the boards that I have been remiss in finding? Please let me know, you have peaked my curiosity!

Here's another spread from the last day or so. Trying to simplify and loosen up a but more.

Here are 4 notebook covers I made for myself for various uses. They are set up as legal sized sheets, folded and then I quick sew the edges with about 16 sheets of legal paper. What you see here are the covers flat, showing front (on the right) and back (left). These are mainly digitally created materials composited together with textures that I created traditionally (rough ink washes, scans of paper, photos of concrete I took, etc.).
