August 8th, 2006, 05:00 PM
Can someone explain to me a bit what an underground is?
Some kinda basement, or cave below the actual surface, anything below the ground?
August 8th, 2006, 05:27 PM
anything below ground :) make it interesting ;)
August 8th, 2006, 05:55 PM
Delay Understood and best of Luck. By any chance do you mean to say the deadline is Tuesday the 15th of August? That is what I think you mean.
August 8th, 2006, 06:16 PM
ah, such nice topic I am able to find here! :D
hope to find time and inspiration...
August 9th, 2006, 04:26 PM
Just when I began to think I could go no further, we rounded a pillar and I could see by the light of Huntington-Smythe's electric torch that we had come to a big enough room. Now if only it was deep enough that The Lobos wouldn't find us before we tended to Dugan's wounds and replaced the dressing on my own. We really needed some time.

arttorney- Looking good man:)
"With light shining upon the city of Lafade the water from the ocean sits peacefully among the rocky walls of the cave. A historic monument of peace and tranquility; the land of Urusa has welcomed this for a 100 years after the war of brutal war of Crin."
August 10th, 2006, 03:35 AM

Squarepixel: :$ :nohope: :xpld: Fantastic! Got a website by the way?
Trying to do as many of these as I can :)
Story... story... story to come.
edit: added crummy story! woo!
"Father" said the boy with a confused tone, "I thought you said no-one had been down here in years". "No-one has son" the man replied. "Then where did he come from" the boy asked as he turned and pointed to the hanging corpse. "That man" the father paused, "that man was put down here years ago for unspeakable crimes, crimes so grave that his torture was to endure the maddening sounds of the cascading waterfalls while the crows slowly pecked him to death. He was force fed in order to prolong his torment for days" The father sighed, he couldn't imagine how sorry a death that must be.
The boy had wandered closer to the corpse as the father spoke, "Father?" The boy said once again with a quizicle tone, "I thought you said no-one had been down here in years." "Yes, son - I just got through saying that" replied the father, beginning to wonder why he had brought the boy with him on this expedition. "But dad, this man doesn't look dead at all!" The boy shrieked.
The corpse spoke up "That's because I'm not - well this vessel is, but I am not this vessel, I've been waiting for quite some time now for another host. I can't thank you both enough for coming, these crows make for bad company."

The series of tunnel collapses have cut us off from silver and amber groups. The infestation of Old London seems to be fairly widespread, yet the tunnel system is remarkably traversable, we seem to have moved on from the more frail parts and are now heading towards the surface. Dr. Gustavo seems to have lost his mind he keeps trying to wander away on his own, maybe its the spores. God knows the air is thick with them I can even taste them. I'm terrified of what the surface will look like, especially since we have been meeting more and more hatchlings the further up we go.
Gustavo and Schnabel have dissapeared we aren't entirely sure what happend, but there is only one route they could have followed, if they are still alive we will find them. There is light further on ahead, we may have reached the surface and get the hell out of here, we are going to investigate.

SquarePixel, the mood and majesty in your pic are sublime mate. Well done
August 11th, 2006, 03:07 PM
World War III was in itīs fifth year when the largest thermonuclear device ever built by human beings was launched.
Itīs destructive power was more than 150 times of the Tsar Bomb of the Soviet Union tested during the cold war and it set the world on fire.
Billions died and those who survived were forced to move under the surface of the planet to escape from hell above.
Their new underground habitat is still under construction but fortunately the radiation protection systemīs already working.
Nice works so far guys :)
Great atmo Square and cool works Dile (even Wip atm), Idiot Apathy and Red.
Looking forward to your stories guys. :D
August 11th, 2006, 04:51 PM
and now for something completely different
The troup had been underground for days, searching for the renegades through endless caverns, their lights were getting dim, when they saw, what appeared to be daylight through a GLORIOUS ARCHWAY. blinded by the light they surged forward......
Im calling it done

At the northern edge of the great dwarven city the glow and bustle of the metropolis abruptly end. A deep chasm cuts across the thoroughfares and though bridges extend to the opposite side, the radiant city does not. Across the chasm lies the Dead City, the burial ground for those dwarves whose souls have gone to join the Guardians in the eternal war.
Chrike, SquarePixel, amazing stuff. Very different approaches, but both are fantastic. :)
August 11th, 2006, 08:12 PM
chrike, great piece! The top left where the light comes through could use a little more detail in my opinion.
Panagos: Eternal war? Man, that doesn't sound good!
chaosrocks: You still have the most random avatar! I thought it might be something weird, but after looking closely it seems to just be a strangely composed picture of a woman and a tree? Hmmm.
August 11th, 2006, 09:34 PM
Ah but can you truly tell which is the woman and which is the tree....? one of them is me ;P
August 11th, 2006, 10:21 PM
They're both kind of turning me on. Maybe I need to get out more.
August 11th, 2006, 10:50 PM
August 12th, 2006, 08:24 AM
Thx Panagos and Dragon.
You´re right the top left corner could really need some more detailing... damn, I´m simply too lazy xD
August 12th, 2006, 03:46 PM
"We have reached the 9th Sub-level now and are descending upon the remnants of the old city in the 2nd Omega quadrant.. The light is barely managing to penetrate through down here and all we hope is that the 'Marders' haven't spotted us so far.
This is gonna be a nightmare..."
Love the ones by SquarePix, Red and Chrike!
August 12th, 2006, 05:12 PM
chrike, now that Hideyoshi has entered a power-piece, you better fix that corner! NOW!!!
August 12th, 2006, 05:27 PM
I loveit hide.!...but how is that underground? the fumes from the ships alone would kill the whole populace, granted a cliff/valley ..... these are killer images..all of them. but I only read 3 maybe four as "underground"
in a weekly "Killer image" competition it'd be a tough deecision
August 12th, 2006, 06:46 PM
There's loads of enormous pits, crevasses, and shafts down there. That's why you can only park in certain designated areas. You don't want your car to fall through.
August 12th, 2006, 10:17 PM
well ok, made some changes in the top left corner but seems it´s not such an improvement lol. I´ll try to be more accurate next time.
Hey Hide, that´s awesome! Really a powerful piece.
August 13th, 2006, 02:03 AM
Thanks guys for the warm welcome. Theres alot of talent here...geez!!:D
chrike, Red_Rook and Hideyoshi... very sick!!:D
Panagos- Thanks man, your story works well with your image. great work!
Idiot Apathy-Thanks alot!! Looking good with the entry man! I'll update my profile so you can see my website.
Kian- Thanks man! I checked out your sketchbook, really good stuff man!
Everybody is doing great, this should be very interesting.:yayca:
August 13th, 2006, 06:30 AM
Wow! What an awesome round... Squarepixel, Chrike, Rook, Hideyoshi, yours are great! I agree with chaos though, some dont read as underground...:)
May tighten this up a bit if I get the time
The underground lab was run by a group of rebels that had kidnapped his wife! He tried to remember the code to open the door, but he just stood there, struggling to to think of the numbers....
August 13th, 2006, 03:54 PM
description added...of sorts
August 14th, 2006, 02:35 AM
Holy crap, you guys are cheating. Youre using too much talent at one time. Try to spread it more thinly to give us mortals a chance.
August 14th, 2006, 02:59 AM
After the chaos produced by a hiper-nuclearwar, this underground facilty is the only one left which can support life. The inhabitants are the former employes of AREA 51 secret labs. There are also ships used to gather food and other materials, from the few places left uncontaminated.:blahblah:
August 14th, 2006, 10:07 AM
Welcome visitor to the Linardi Corporation’s automated underground mining operations. You are now viewing lab number five, this is where raw ore is sorted and analyzed before further processing.
August 14th, 2006, 01:10 PM
Jeeeeeze people... this place is gettin scary. Squarepixel and Hideyoshi... respect! :) Some awsome entries! I wish I had time to join the fray :(
August 14th, 2006, 09:44 PM
It wasn't until years later that the kids realized following Diego and Senorita Maria throughout the vast caverns to the orphanage was probably a bad idea.
August 14th, 2006, 10:14 PM
hahah, Love the concept, GE.
August 14th, 2006, 10:34 PM
Well deadlines up I guess this is my final
Sperlunking through the caves on the remote island of Mynzania, he found himself somewhere totally alien to anything he had seen before. The expansive underground city appeared as though the inhabitants have lived there for centuries unknown to mankind.
August 14th, 2006, 11:02 PM
great work everyone. Nice lighting Gen.
Description- An underground research facility built to research how researching underground effects the human labido.
August 14th, 2006, 11:44 PM
these are all wicked
August 15th, 2006, 04:46 AM
After excavation of the temple of Solomon a large key stone was removed and beneath it laid the truth all humans have searched for, the truth that had been suppressed for so long. The society was tremendously advanced and dated back thousands of years and with the recovery of their ancient data we learned that this city was the epicenter of the planet. Twisted and destroyed by what our own mythologies called the war of the gods, this sacred center was buried far beneath the sands of time so no human could ever remember the truth of its tyranny.
August 15th, 2006, 05:00 AM
This is gonna be a great round. Stokes, lovin the tech man!
August 15th, 2006, 08:05 AM
what the...? o_O°
August 15th, 2006, 08:21 AM
amazing ain't it?
August 15th, 2006, 08:25 AM
Eclipse and Stokes, what kind of power-entries are those at such late hour!!! Man, this is going to be a big contest, Hideyoshi and chrike were preparing to go mano-a-mano and now you made it a foursome!
August 15th, 2006, 09:38 AM
jeeeez. This is going to be a N.I.G.H.T.M.A.R.E to judge. :(
August 15th, 2006, 09:40 AM
LOL pwned ( x_x)
Eclipse the rendering is damn awesome!
Stokes you got my vote I love it *__*
But please shorten your description next time I don´t like reading long ones XD~
This was a lot of fun and the entries simply rock. A lot of different but great interpretations.
August 15th, 2006, 11:46 AM
NCsoft just dropped a serious art bomb.
Gen, knew it was yours as soon as i saw it, sweeet work.
Loving all the entries this round.
Need to finish this
Inspiring stuff guys.
August 15th, 2006, 12:31 PM
:O EOW needs to be like this every week!!!!
August 15th, 2006, 01:53 PM
Here by the deadline, I just thought I should say thanks to Square Pixel for the positive feedback on my entry. It looks likely you'll get about 15 or 20 more votes than I do, though. Nice work!
August 15th, 2006, 02:12 PM
Hey man! your both works are awesome really like them a lots
to MR. L and J
August 15th, 2006, 11:39 PM
darn, I thought this had a later deadline, oh well, I guess I get to work on it more. There's always next week
August 16th, 2006, 05:49 AM
Don't know if I have the time but anyway, want to post it. A lot of inspiring work for this subject.
Description: I can tell you what happened here. I won't have the strengh to go downstairs to see by myself.
August 16th, 2006, 11:38 AM
Nice Farak... though AN interesting description that stoppes it being 'obvious' and gets the mind imagining would definitly help I think. Ignite your viewers imagination... tont just tell them what happened. make them WANT to know.
Badger : I really like the colours in that one... :) Yer fast improving!. Just remember the darkest dark gets lighter with distance... and thats dependent on distance into space so the rule applies everywhere in an image... the distant black is the same as the foreground one in your pic. even a difference of like 10% would pop that foreground out. :)
August 16th, 2006, 01:04 PM
Thank you very much Sketchling :) ... Glad, you got my point about the non-description... By the way, if I was in this kind of place, I won't try to know what is going on undergound neither!
Besides, I am in loved with Stokes and Genital Eclipse work... Squarepixel, Hideyoshi... constant quality (Hideyoshi, love the color of your lighter point, inspired mine in a way)
August 16th, 2006, 01:18 PM
update.....although It is really a pretty moot point, cause theres so many totally amazing pieces here
August 16th, 2006, 09:38 PM
nice one Ferak. Totally creeps me out though.
