whaddayathink?
personally i think its a very ambitious project, it looks really beautiful, but it seems to fall at the finish line. Among other things I can just hear that the voiceacting sounds unbearably bad (cringeworthy even) and the lipsync looks off (like video game off) and some of the scenes that are supposed to be cool in the trailer fall flat because there seemes to be no weight in the animation.
ahh, I guess Ill just have to get off my arse and do my own animated movie....
What do you guys think? Flip or flop?

flop, just because people are not ready for this.
I like it, and many more do. but the hurd ( scheeps, normall people) don't, i think.
so that why i think it wil flop. But ill will watch that.

I'm all for seeing things done differently, but black and white? That's going just a bit too far I think. Still seems intriguing.

I'm not expecting to much of it, it looks and feels like a rotoscope with no other animation principles added to it. If you dont intend on following the animation principles then why bother to make one. Now the movie just looks like a normal movie with a black and white gimmick.

I heard it was out in France a long time ago?
Anyone gonna back this up?
Anyway, I think A Scanner Darkly looks more annoying than this, it's gonna give me a headache after watching it, guaranteed.

I like the look of it a lot, but whether it stands or falls will depend on the performances and story. Anybody remember Sky Captain :dead: ?

Yeah, I feel the same way about it. Nice looking effect. Im feeling another Hollywood CG trend coming on.

I'm probably alone in this but Sky Captain is one of my all time favourite genre movies :) We need a goggle smilie
And from what I understand Kerry Conran is slated to helm John Carter: Warlord of Mars. If this is indeed the case I'm already lining up for it (metaphorically speaking that is).

The first I can confirm. I've been to the International Animated Film Festival in Annecy this year where it was shown to the public the first time. It won this years award for best animated feature film.
Imho its a good film for the genre and I didn't notice the lip sync being off. The one thing that makes the movie really stand out is the motion capture. The faces are animated really convincible. Most of the time you won't even notice the difference between a human and CGI. On the other hand the characters seemed a bit to generic in their body modeling (it's a minor thing though).
The topic of the movie is quite interesting and the end is not as cheesy as one might expect. I've got to give a thumb up for not making it a real happy ending. Still, the story is not as intellectual as I would have wished but then again it probably wouldn't appeal to all too many... Speaking of mass compatibility I don't see any problem in ti being black and white. "Sin City" was that too and it was a quite a big hit (at least more than I would have thought, ok it had some stars in it, too). The only objection I had while I was watching the film was that it sometimes worked and sometimes it was too much. It's a bit hard to describe but I had the feeling that less shading and grayscale would have been better. More like an actual animated "Sin City".
Oh well, I enjoyed watching it and it was definitely worth all the heat and sweat in a crammed French theater.
:)
Btw, the second I can't confirm but what I've seen so far (there is an official 24min sample floating on the net) doesn't really give me headaches. At least compared to "Waking Live" which was made by the same director and is a lot more, how shall I put it... fluid?

Last I heard Jon Favreau was going to be directing that, after he finishes Iron Man. It's gone through a couple directors now.
This has a really cool look to it. I'd definitely like to see this.

Now that I read this I think I remember hearing something about that. I was aware that few directors have had a crack at it. Ultimately, I'm just happy it's not going to be Rodriguez.
