Hey everyone.
After the Montreal workshop, a few of us decided that we'd like to really start workign on portfolio work. We wanted a way to show our range of skill, but we also wanted something on a similar theme. So we have decided to make a mock videogame. EKLIPSE. Will be the codename for it, because the world is based largely around the many suns that orbit the planet. But more on the story later...

The group includes Myself, Danomight, Cartoonfox, Romance, Kian... and for an art director, Poise has been kind enough to lend some of her spare time to help us out..

To start, this is some of the desert ruin area of Ile. it was once a booming city, cowboy like I suppose. But it was destroyed in a vicious attack, and all the townsfolk slaughtered. What remains is a desolate land that shows memories of what used to be a happy place.

So here we have a piece by Kian, so we could get a feeling of the mood for the Ile desert.
9404

BY Danomight here we have a sketch for an old run down shack. I think this might be where the 2 character from this area made thier little hideout.

And the colored version.

We'd be happy to know what you think :)
CHEERS!

Not bad. I like the concepts. I do agree that the lens flare needs to go

May as well post my crap in here.
Two creature sketches for the Ile desert.
At the time I had no visual aid, so I just farted them out. When I have time I'm going to go back and re-do them acording to the concepts you see above, making them finished concepts.

Peace

I love your work on Romona, especially the detail in her tattoo. But according to every video game ever made, she's gotta have bigger boobs to make it as a female character ;)

none of the colourings really do the female char's linework any justice (which is quite cute). she's got some very formidable wrists :-x and a mustache lol

she looks quite like yuffy in the lineart with some fun native american twist

the dragon tatoo doesnt seem to fit with the post apocalyptic neosteam wildwest theme of the environments, nor does the shuriken..but maybe shes some kind of wildwest ninja squall?

just my gut reactions

What a nice bunch of artist here ! I'm really glad to see you all join your talents, bravo gentlemen. I like the mood a little "apocalyptic western" of this project. Want to see more.
Peace.
J.
P.S: Cartoonfox, ypu did a good job with these creatures, I think. Can't wait to see the progress. :)

Nice vehicle, Danomight! Very romantic!

Romance, I think you should lower those backdrop mountains, just a bit. The way the shack (and the ground) is drawn puts the horizon beneath groundlevel.

I love kian's piece at the top.. thats a cool technique with the wash looking strokes over the top..

Lens flare? From the description, I assumed it was another one of the suns orbiting the planet. Perhaps just the halo needs to be toned down.

I could be wrong, but I feel like the upper arm (biceps area) on the female is a little too long anatomically.

great concept guys! interceptor.. i do wonder if you could take another stab at her face? she is no doubt one of your characters by facial features alone.. but because of this she appears more masculine than anything. great start tho people!

I did the vehicles, Dan did the shack. Thanks.

I've requested Loren to remove my sketches till I can find time to finish them, seeing as how they are in the finally finished section... unfinished. Finals should be up after this weekend.

what a project! I can't wait to see more!

I tend to agree with everyone's observations on the female's anatomical issues, but she still has a cute feel! She'll be a very successful supporting character. She just has that IT factor!

I repeat.... I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE MORE!

Hey thanks alot for the replies so far everyone.

Thanks personally to those who commented on Ramona's face. I guess I did'nt really notice until I posted the pic up. I guess that's why they stress zooming out of your work to see if it reads from far away. A mistake I won't make again. Unfortunately I think the pic is done.. But... I'll be doing from portraits for ingame text bubbles and such later. So I'll get a chance to really nail that face.

Sorry about prematurely posting Romance's work. He'll put it up soon. it should be cool stuff.... you know Romance ;)

I don't know if you guys already edited the lens flare looking sun, but it looks fine to me. I think its funny people even brought that up. I know this site hates the lens flare filter, but that looks like an honest to goodness hand painted halo around a sun, quite effective. As far as Ramona goes, she looks pretty good. I saw some crits in Interceptors sketchbook, and I think you should fix up her anatomy according to those. I won't post any, because those anatomy crits were better than mine. Dude, I know you say she's done, but if this is truly going to be portfolio work, then please, take it the extra step. Interceptor, your stuff kicks ass, but refusing to fix mistakes? It's a dope drawing, but it would be at another level with minimal work. My two cents anyway.

Actually. You know I was thinking about this too much as deadliens and so much much about getting it right for portfolio status. you're right ;)

I'll leave the thread open for future posts on the project. :)

Well, thought I'd finally update this thread with a couple of the vehicles which I've done for this project, neither of which have been approved by out Art Director.

First one is a Merchant Wagon. One that sells those rare oddities and elixers you just can't get in stores. :)

The secone is a crappy old airship which I will be redesigning cuz I think it's beyond the suck.

Hope you like.

I like your "tech" stuff. It has some nice 3d looks (the car especially).

RE:
"the dragon tatoo doesnt seem to fit with the post apocalyptic neosteam wildwest theme of the environments"

I live in the post apocalyptic neostream wildwest, and there are tattooed babes all over the place. I admit I don't see that many shurikens, though.

Oh, Romance updated. I guess I'll post some new stuff, too. A pair of characters...
I did'nt even notice how similar the poses were until I posted them now :)

Kell and Ramona are from the same small town, Eile. All of this work right now is from the same area.
Romance's work is from of Eile, before is was more than barren wasteland. The characters are from a more modernized time.

again, are these two latest characters related? because they look very much alike if not. might i suggest more evident and frequent variations within their faces and hairstyles? even skintones? dont get me wrong, i love what you do with your drawings, but again they could be quite easily mistaken for siblings.. and if this isnt intended then you may cop some flakk for it. i dunno, it may be just me and my lack of sleep, an the fact that theyve practically got the same pose, but yeh, some food for thought. VERY nicely done, regardless!

Nice stuf.. gang...
i think it's great to keep us updated on the project.
Also.. i think that the best is to have your ways in the Game Design area of the forum. That zone needs some love...
thse guys are alreayd there

Beautiful work, guys. :-) Hey, if you haven't seen it already, you might be interested in my game art thread. There's a link to it in my sig. I've added stuff on game environments to it recently.

Cheers!

Seedling:Thanks! Haven't had time to read your gamethread yet, but I have briefly skimmed it. Have to say it look awsome and thorough. As soon as I find the time I'll go through it. :)

Thanks for moving this Oblio, we'll most likely be updating this here, as well as the copied thread in the Games section.

Stoph: Thanks for the crit on the characters. This is something I agree with to some level. This will most likely be addressed once receive more revisions from out art director and begin to do revisions.

Arttorney: Thank you.

Character: You better! :)

Just a reminder as well to people, this is NOT a real game project, this is just to get our portfolios polished, (though, it would be interesting if something big did happen with it).

Also and unfortunately, because this project is done in our spare time and that it is being treated as a job-like scenario, we will not be accepting outside art at this time. Our current art director barely has enough time to be looking over the teams work and giving revisions, let alone doing this for outside submissions.
