nice light in that second one. You usually dont push light much in your pieces, looks like you know your way with it though.

Beautiful...your pastel-like technique is wonderful. I really like the first one. Specially the way you cropped here face...And, you gotta love those panties...

Hi landmate,
the first picture is imho a typical, good work for you but I personally think with the second one you´re really going a step further. It still keeps your clear style and colour-schemes by getting more painting than drawing (sorry, some vocabulary missing ;))
I´m not sure but I think there are some minor flaws with the torso-muscles in the second picture. I can be wrong but I would check it out in an anatomy book.
Really good work, I really like how you´re improving by keeping your own style.

i think i remember seeing that axe pic of yours somewhere, and yeah, the torso looks kinda weird. nice to have you back tho.

Hi Landmate,
I agree with Fipse, on the second pic I get the feeling that you are on an other level, and it is going to be interesting where you will go from there.

I think the pose of the second pic is what elevates it. It is more dynamic, and coupled with the strong light focus, it really makes the piece very strong.
I am real happy to see more work from you Land, great work. Oh, and I really like the tatoos and facial shading on the top one.

I'm going with the first one, the face alone makes that piece the rest is just cake
you've got a great style, post more work, more work!
Landmate
May 28th, 2003, 11:25 AM
yea I like the face the best too, the rest is so so.
I see what you guys are saying, but I love my line! *wimper*
we'll see what happens, I'd like to keep some line yet still develop the rendering.

Great stuff, Landmate. These two pieces are a real improvement in your stuff. Mainly because you're pushing the lighting and contrast further--it just makes things pop more.
This is personal preference, but I like your stuff better with linework. To me, the first piece has more impact than the second piece sans linework.
The designs on both characters are great and very consistent with your previous work. I like how you're establishing this sort of vocabulary for the figures you draw.

the face on the first pic is the best thing i've seen you do
and for the crit part, that ass is too short and the arm in the second one casts a sharp shadow at a really weird angle (makes the pectoralis really flat)

ahhhhh nice to see you playing around with the light dark line obliteration thing. i know, you love your line, but as an artist, its important not to get too cought up in your conventions. experimenting will always make you better. i hope you've learned something from these. i personally wouldn't have gone quite that dark, especially on the background. i would run a lighter color gradient from the bottom of the pic up to about the middle. this would balance the pic a bit more, pop the lower body out, and restate the linework within the bottom. you have a good eye for design, remember design MAKES a pic. the first piece is awesome more because of the design than anything else... lets see you bring a little of that to the second piece. again great work and great effort. be ambitious and observant and you'llll go far.-c36

ooooly crrrrraaap! I remember when you posted up the lineart for that second one on another board :) I like how you redesigned the weapon and the coloring job surely brought the piece to life.. nice job!

i definitly agree with el coro by bringing out the bottom of pic 2 out more with cooler lighter colour.
the left shoulder on pic 2 has excellent light casting on it. there is definitly alot more detail you can bring out on the lower half of his body.
is that axe glowing or reflecting?? hard to distinguish as you have 2 lightsources.
love both!

I love these... I just think the girl needs more meat on that ass. What I like most besides the lighting is the character design. Great work, thanks for inspiring!

Wow guy!
Must agree with everyone, this is fabulous venture into a new renderings style and as always solid concepts. Looooove the axe.
One thing though. Fipse is right, the torso muscles are a bit off. Its where his lats meet his ribcage. Lats extend from the spine and rear pelvis and wrap around the side inserting into the upper humerus. The serratus anterior (those rib like muscles under the armpit) actually extends from the underside of the shoulderblade go around the side passing under the lats to insert into the upper eight, nine, or even ten ribs.
In your peice the serratus anterior appears to be merging with the lats or overlapping and the mid lat area is inserting into his side. Sorry to blab on, I just really think this peice deserves that bit of extra attention to make it perfect. I hope this helps. Probably could have switched these 1000 words for a picture. Oh well. :D

apples and oranges though.
It looks like the second one is using more of a dramatic 3 point lighting scheme... very nice for depth and realism.
gotta love the faerie though... or fall in love with her any way. gotta show my wife, possible halloween costume idea (might be too cold her in the midwest though).
great work all the way around.

The update on the girl looks sooo much better. It looks like you were inspired be zone of the enders 2, the second runner. Because of those little particle effects. Great details :)

the first is unbevielable good if I have seen the second! it would be nice to see your update of the second if you did recognize mistakes of the second

Stunning work.
1st Image: as always, I love your style. In this particular piece, I believe the cropping has made more of an impactful statement than anything else. The cropping really depersonalizes character while enhancing the beautiful shapes, both positive and negative.
2nd Image: Different direction, like Caravaggio meets Jason, nonetheless awe-inspiring.

I think both of these are impressive. I would lean toward the second one as my favorite for the quality lighting and drama. My only suggestion would be to maybe add some dirt and scars to the guy with the axe.
I agree with andreasrocha that you cropped the girls face in the ideal place.
very well done.

Landmate, I always love your style. Even when you choose to create what isn't the norm, or what people traditionally would expect in anatomy or mechanics. Keep it up....sorry, but you'll probably never get a crit from me. You create what you see...whether in real life or in your mind....I like that...It shows.:chug:

wow! I love your style! and I think you should keep your lines, I like 'em. i have to say I liked the first pic with the tiny panty-like thing she was wearing more then the cloth there now. Although it does add a more provocative feel to it.
I sculpt alot of ladies for work, (just modeling my second guy in 2 years now!) and love the lines you find in them. Very sexy, and very relatable. GREAT WORK.
Hope to see more!
