I've had a wacom for like 3 weeks, and I started this. But I'm having a hard time just focusing and getting anything done lol. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for techniques. For example, should I do the details and lighting one building at a time, or progress equally over the whole thing? What do you find is the most efficient way to work? I'm looking for ideas here. Thanks

My3bika,

Looks promising. I suggest work equally on the pic. So that you can keep control over the feel and mood of the pic. That way you can balance out the different levels of detail on your buildings.

Highlight (in the sense of interesting details) will help liven up your pic as well.

Hope you can do something with this and keep on going.

Thanks for the tips. That brings up another question, I realize this needs some life to make it more than just a typical city scene. I'm planning on having the building with X's be a partially constructed skyscraper that will be lit and have construction crews working on it. that'll add some life, any other suggestions?

That sounds like a real good idea. You can do a lot with that. As far as suggestions go, to stay with the construction theme perhaps it's an idea to add vehicles that transport the building materials? And perhaps some regular trafic?

cool feel. instead of showing life directly, it might have a stronger effect if you just implied life. silouettes in windows etc. i hate to think you just throw some construction guys in there just so you can have life.

but hey its just my 2 cents. right now it has a very interesting look.

Well the construction would be taking place on the building with the steel frame exposed, as I've sketched on the rough draft. because of scale and once I resize it for the web, they'd be more implied as you say, because they'd probably just be like dots that cast a little shadow. Silohuettes is a good idea.

Phait - your name's familiar as well, perhaps I've seen it at the basement or deviantart.

D'oh, I was going to comment on the piece :P

I like the depth this has, kind of a freeze-frame of a fly through, I'm anxious to see it completed.

BTW - I'm not a part of deviant art and i've never heard of 'the basement' - I'm just a web design:1 regular in yahoo! chat :P

You know Chris Dang right? *grin*

Oh, Chris Dang, then you posted at perfect burn eh? lol.

Yeah, I haven't done much else with this. I bit off more than I can chew. I'll get back into it once I graduate ... in 11 days. Until then I have other things to worry about, and a simpler drawing I'm working on.
