Yes, I was afraid of that. There are 2 "problems". One is that even at maximum quality, JPEG has the tendancy to blur the dark colors a lot, and the background too, making the details less obvious. Secondly, it's quite dark to begin with and depending on the monitor's settings, the details might also disappear.

The .psd version I have on my machine does show more details/contrast: for instance the mage atop the tower, with the blue light, is much more obvious than it is here. Not sure what to do other than sharpening it before saving as a Jpeg.

The mood you establish is really great and excellent detail work on the armor. The image is a bit on the dark side, but that just contributes to the overall atmosphere.

With the bright highlights off the main figure's armor, I'd expect to see the figures to the left to be lit a bit more strongly. But you'd probably lose the focus of the image, so it's all good.

sweet man i like the darkness of it. really adds to it and works well.. :). The details and atmosphere is great and now you mentioned the wizard i can now see it and it adds a lot more. good work.

Very cool. I like the tiny guy on the tower in the distance with the shining staff. Is there a story behind him?

i like it ..but i think it's a little bit too dark ....it's quite hard to see all on this pic ....it's a very good pic anyway

The picture is indeed quite dark and the compression didn't do it justice. One main reason, I assume, is that I've been painting this one at night only because I was able to see details that would just disappear in daylight. The problem, of course, is that I was working on details that would not be visible under normal cirucmstances. Too see the full gamut, one should watch it at night, in darkness with a black background, because that's how it was painted, but that was not a great idea on my part because, of course, I can't expect people to do that just to see it all. I could also play with brightness and saturation, but though it would enhance the background, it would kill the foremost Orc, making him way too bright.

In other words, I learn a valuable lesson here. If you can only see the details under very restrictive circumstances, don't bother.

As for the little guy atop the tower, yes there is a story behind him. Which side do you think he's on? :)

As a matter of fact, I want to do a series of "Orc Invasion: From Republic to Empire" and I bet that one of them will be about "him". Hopefully, this time, I won't make the same mistakes I've done with this painting...so it should be more..hmm..."visible" :)
