Here are some images I took while in Kyoto (and a few of Hiroshima). I took a quick vacation there earlier this summer (I'm stationed in Okinawa). If there's one you really like I can send you a higher resolution pic. Hope you enjoy!

Very nice. I recognize Kinkaku-ji, Ginkaku-ji, Itsukushima shrine, the one temple in Kyoto, and then of course Hiroshima... A good tour of most of the major areas. :3

I'm going to have to see about going to Japan, if these photos (which are great by the way) do Japan justice, it looks like a beautiful place.

Absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for posting these. I have to ask; what are those notes that are hanging on those walls? I really have little know-how about japanese culture, but it sure is cool. : P Thanks again, really great stuff.

It really is a beautiful country. I spent a year and a half there (on two separate occasions) and these are actually just the touristy places. There are even more areas, especially outside the big cities, that can be really lovely.

Kyoto is definitely worth a trip or two, though, all by itself. :3

I think the notes are boxes? Although thin ones.

They are probably 絵馬 "ema" :small wooden palques on which worshippers of Shinto wrtie wishes (prayers). They are left hanging at the shrine so that the sprits can recieve them. Kinda like lighting a prayer candle in a Catholic church.

Hi,
I just found this thread and I was wondering if it would be alright for me to post some of my own pictures from Japan. I went to Japan this past December, we went to Tokyo on a school trip/learning abroad program. Unfortunately, it was only for two weeks :( and wasn't able to go anywhere else. Still, it was fascinating to explore Tokyo, get lost and ride the subway. lol.
I can start another thread for pictures...but as seeing as this one is so useful already and has so many great pictures of references, more would help it expand even more. :D
