Hi, I am a beginner to drawing and am new to conceptArt.org...I doodled this weird creature that you see here in Painter. Gonna clean it up a bit and repost...Thanks for looking:)

the shaded version is even messier then the sketch
there is a huge lack of highlights

I think the biggest problem here is the lack of coherence (that's the word right?). In the sketch and even the shaded version, there are a lot of lines, and the idea you want to show is there. But when you glance over it just becomes a mass of skulls, tentacles and... other things...

Perhaps start over, using this as a reference, and then start building it from the ground up. So first some major shapes, then the minor shapes, then some details. And like Infinit said, do throw in a few highlights :).

I recommend reading andrew loomis books, start with "succesfull drawing", use the search feature of the forums, good luck!.

I think you should try thinking about the underlying anatomy and how it might move. I think that might help you figure out some of the underlying masses. Maybe take this image and drawover it in photoshop and overlay some anatomical structure like the bones and muscles and tendons. 2cents

your right..i wasn't thinking about movement when I drew it ...I will work on it though...:)
