View Full Version : -Urgaffels not too seldom updated sketch suppository- (updated 09/08/06)
July 26th, 2006, 12:15 PM
Well... Might as well get started :) I've been doing 3d for ages and need to get better at 2d since I want to be able to do... I dunno... cool stuff and being able to draw those cool ideas helps ;)
Anyway, here's a compilation of lifedrawings from a drawing workshop I attended last year at VFS
A compilation of sketches from yesterday and todays travels to and from work
The chunky lady-like thing leaning over a railing is a rough idea for a scene for my female robot (I like robots...) (http://www.urgaffel.com/images/female_body.jpg). I also have a pretty good reference for a nighttime city background. Feel free to use it if you need reference: Fucking huge Tokyo skyline montage :) (http://www.urgaffel.com/photos/CIMG0167-tokyoskyline-xtreme.jpg)
Lastly some cool photos from Stockholm and Vancouver (http://www.urgaffel.com/photos/sthlm_vancouver/index.html)
And that's it from me... for now :)

Whee, I'm liking that last page of studies. The hands especially are looking strong. Oh, and thanks for that ridiculously huge panorama. :D
July 27th, 2006, 08:21 AM
Thanks Lotekk, glad you like the studies. And the panorama ;)
Did a quick lunch Hogarth copy that got a little elaborated. And a 1 minute magpie :D
(ignore the head, it's f$#!@ed)

Looks great sofar, I'm gonna subscribe to this one.. I'll pull your nut hair if you don't update frequently.
July 28th, 2006, 04:45 AM
Thanks monkey, I'll do my best to not have my nut hair yanked...
...so here are some sketches from last nights trip home and morning trip to work :) (fairly happy with the back+handbag one, 5min-ish scribble of a woman at a tram stop)
July 28th, 2006, 09:19 AM
Another lunch break, another batch. Some funky ones in there today and a face that didn't turn out too bad :nohope:
July 28th, 2006, 11:58 AM
I like the coke can, the face right beside the coke can and the beer belly guy. You can see a definite improvement already! Keep going, p'chan!
July 28th, 2006, 07:17 PM

Thanks Clippy :) Glad you like the coke can, it was very hard to not to do any sketchy lines ;P
Martin, glad I have your approval. I will try to get more lifedrawings done :)
Llynna, yeah, I really need to get more drawings done. And I will tactfully nudge elsie about it too ;) I need to get back to lifedrawing so I can get that dynamic thingie going again... I get kind of stale not doing gestures etc :/
Fii, just crazy stuff in my head ;)
I slacked on the weekend playing Soulcalibur 3 and baking a cake and stuff... So here are the monday morning work trip sketches!
August 1st, 2006, 09:40 AM
Been slacking slightly so... Not that much new today :$
August 1st, 2006, 12:41 PM
glad to see you started drawing again Peter! Nice studies. I like these last ones most, where the guys are caught in the rain :D
August 2nd, 2006, 06:46 AM
Thanks Queenie, while the anatomy is off the feeling is rainy which is a good thing heh.
Here's a bunch of doodles from yesterday and this morning. Not much to write home about but there's the odd nose and stuff that didn't turn out like shit heh.

Apologies for the lack of updates today. Wrist has been hurting so I haven't been drawing much :( I did do some light and shadow tests but it's boring so I won't be posting it. Hopefully I'll have more interesting things to show this weekend... Just need to get some art supplies first :D
August 3rd, 2006, 08:47 AM
life drawing is good keep on working on it
August 3rd, 2006, 11:50 AM
Sonboss, I will buy some A3 paper and pencils this weekend and force my gf to sit still so I can draw her :) Hopefully that will help...
Me at work at the moment:

I apologize for the lack of updates lately, haven't really been feeling too good and my sketches feel inadequate... So I turned back to an old friend of mine that needs to be completed :D Here she is, for the first time with sub surface scatteringon both the eyes and the skin. Got inspired by the thread about Davy Jones over at CgTalk, need to finish this gal so she can bask in the glory of... Er... Something or other? Anyway, enough talk, here's the image

Just LOVE those facial segments. How humanly realistic are you trying to portray the facial structure?
August 8th, 2006, 11:29 AM
I was going for as good as photo real back when I modeled it so I guess very realistic. It's also an exercise in texturing and mental ray of which I have some experience already... ;) I know there's something wrong with the philtrum (Ailsa keeps reminding me >_<) so that will change. Anything else that stands out?
August 8th, 2006, 11:34 AM
I'm not certain, but the eye sockets look like they're a little deep-set. The nose may need a bit of tweaking around and below the bridge. It might be the lighting, but right now it seems like the middle of the nose is flush with the cheekbone area.
Other than that, looks real neat, and I love the way the head is panelled.
August 9th, 2006, 05:33 AM
Hooray! I've sketched and it's not all crap :O
Here we go... First some random junk
And then the fun stuff ;)
Next up I'll try to do more robot stuff and more lifedrawing... Until then, have a good day :^^:
August 9th, 2006, 05:46 AM
I like the one with your shoes on the pavement while you are drawing... makes me all dizzy looking at it. Nice view!
August 9th, 2006, 05:50 AM
Nice to see you here! Good to see that you are sketching a lot. I think that if you would just keep sketching everyday and with some help of reference and your co-workers you will improve fast! Now, keep posting more!
August 21st, 2006, 08:35 AM
Sorry for lack of updates :( Haven't felt like drawing at all, been stressed over various things at work and in my personal life so... No spark whatsoever.
I have done some more work on my robot chick and I know this isn't the place for 3d but what the hell... I want to show it to the world so I'll post it here anway :)
November 23rd, 2006, 11:05 AM
Holy crap I've been bad at updating this thing... And I'm still bad since all I have is a doodle :(
Oh well... Hopefully I'll have some sort of christmasy things coming along later :)
November 30th, 2006, 07:15 AM
Yay lifedrawing session yesterday. Only drew for an hour or so before I had to leave but at least I got a few 5 minute or so sketches that are worth showing :)
