Is it normal for large (100px) bruses to slow photoshop?

If I even go above 100px by one pixel it slows down the program. Is this normal and if not, what can I do to fix it?

no it's not normal, I have brushes that's like 1000px it's slower but not that slow. maybe your system is just slow or you have heaps of brush options happening like "texture" "dual" and so on... can't really say but no it's not normal.

Well I remembered reading about how if you add too many custom brushes to a Painter brush library that it could cause a performance hit. So I tried reseting the Photoshop brush library and it worked. So how should I organize my brushes so this doesn't happen anymore.

ermm, I usually save my brushes in a "set" so I only have bunch of brushes I really use, most are customs of course, so why not just lose some of the ones you don't use and have a brush set of your own?

I kind of have the same problem. Things get pretty choppy for me past around 100px. I have a 1.5 ghz cpu, 1 gig of ram, and a geforce 3. I dunno if my computer is too old for PS :P

unless your computer is a complete dinosaur
you shouldnt consider a 100pix brush as large. thats actually a really small brush
and definitely listen to bumskee
too many custom brushes WILL slow you down if not crash you (given little ram)also its proven that for some reason music players (especially itunes) slow down photoshop signifigantly
and the more files you have on your desktop the slower you will operate as well
in a professional setting you should have the memory usage setting in preferences to 70 percent
that may help your problem alot

Hey there, same thing was happening to me in Photoshop cs2, and I have a pretty decent computer, so I asked, and Meatsworthy told me that this is a problem they have with Photoshop CS2, there is an update you can download that fixes this, I belive it is: Version 9.0.1 , I could not find out where to download this again, but.... Adobe offers version 9.0.2 which sais that it fixes everything it fixed in 9.0.1

I updated with 9.0.1 and it fixed my problem, so I am not gonna bother trying the 9.0.2, You might still be abled to search google and find other sites that still allow you to download 9.0.1 ...
