Hi All,
I've noticed that other Magic cards from this set have already been posted here, so thought I would throw mine in to the mix.

Damn fine !
I like the "Frozen Solid" the most, followed by the Scoundrel and the Ashes. Great work !
I think I have to do a search on that Game ?! ;)

Wow Ralph, these are awesome. I really like frozen solid. The detail is incredible. Are these traditional paintings or digital?
I am wondering... How did you get to work for Wizards doing magic cards. This is something I'd like to do someday.
Joe.

My favorite is the Scoundrel, but they're all pretty wicked!

Hi,
Micha_1138: Thanks. You can find out about magic on theWizards of the Coast website.
Mr-Joe:The paintings are all done in Acrylic. I got work on Magic through the submissions process and a helpful recommendation from Kev Walker :teeth: .
Cicinimo: Nice to know that different images appeal to different people. Hopefully this means that it is a fairly strong batch.
Lone Wolf: Glad you like the desaturated background. I was trying to go for more contrast between the fore/background in these. I wanted to try to go for a narrower range of values in the background and less saturated colour. Glad you feel this works.
Se7en: I would be interested to hear what you feel fails to work on the anatomy. Always good to have a different eye applied to your work. One of the reasons for posting here. :yayca:
thanks for all your comments.
Cheers,
Ralph

Very nice. I thought those looked like traditional media. I'm curious, in this age of digital art and reproduction, do you still have to send in your originals? Or can you scan them and email them?

In the las one, the arm is bent at a funny angle...looks broken but not..ya know? And on the first one, where the hand is holding the ashes, right around the bracelet area it bends in. The line is crooked when the arm line begins again. I think that is the anat problem se7en is talkint about

It's falling off.
I love the hole in the hood of the scoundrel that lets you see his eye. It's a fantastic little touch. Oh, and I love the yellowy/diseased eyes.

I love htel ast one. The first is pretty cool but her facial markings seem a little juvenile in style. The one's jutting down fro mherh airline just look out of place.

Hi All,
Gavin; Thanks. I got some inspiration from Frederick Remington's portrayal of snow at night for the Scoundrel.
jfwalls; I usually scan in my originals. That way I know what the digital looks like, and I can be happy with the levels, etc. I then either send in a disc or ftp the finals.
Sailkin; As pointed out by Rhynome the 'Frozen Solid' guys arm is falling off! I understand what you say about the Martyr's arm. This was probably a stylisation too far.
Rhynome; Glad you like my take on the scoundrel. I thought the yellow in his eys/skin combined with the gold in his hand would help pull the figure forward and throw the focus on to him. I enjoy working within a limited palette with just a dash of other contrasting colours thrown in.
Charlie_2.0; Thanks.
BlueMech; The Martyr's marking were laid down in the existing reference materia, so they had to be there.
Thanks everyone for your comments.
Cheers,
Ralph
