Hi, Everyone Im new to the boards here I always wanted to ask some people who do artwork like me this question, Ok over the years when going on art websites and looking at some artwork of my friends, artists and other places I noticed that alot of them sometimes do artwork from pictures from Magazines of Hero and Horror characters movies and things like that but it seems they dont change nothing around and it actually looks like the picture in the mag with the same background and everything which is good that it looks like the picture and all but wouldnt seem like they can get in trouble by the person who took the pic for the mag if they sell they artwork later on down the road?

I think that as an artist who has the libberty to change anything at will-i LOVE to use that. its what makes us better than cameras. - or worse-
but yeh- so i belive that-that kind of drawing and art is just kinda...idk. unproductive. take your own pics and mix them up-add things and stuff. its all good! what ever makes money and doesnt get you pwned on copyright laws

Doing an illustration of some one or thing is not considered illegal... it is immitation. However, doing an illustration of a trademarked character like... Mickey Mouse, performing some unGodly sexual act and then marketing said illo is an actionable offence. Or marketing the illo as an officially sanctioned piece from the creator is also bad. Think of doing artist renderings of pre-exsisting work as impressions... No one is gonna sue Will Farrel for his Bush impersonation.

Ok what Im trying to say is for instance lets say u saw a picture freddy kreuger in a magazine doing a certain pose and u decide ok I like this pose Im think imma draw it but change the background and add something too it. What im sayin is cant a person get in trouble for drawing him without permission from the creator and trying to sell it later on down the road? Theres this one artist Im sure u heard of him name Jeff Pittareli he do artwork like that and sells it on Ebay. But thanks u guys and gals yall have been a big help to me.

And if they decide they want to make an example of you as a deterrent for others, you could find yourself in BIG trouble.
