5% Kickass. I've always considered him more of an illustrator than a concept artist/character designer. His stuff doesn't really 'pop' to me, it's a bit too faint and undefined. Still, there's some gems of his that I like.

Damn your argument!

As far as actual game design, I never found Amano's to be much more palpable than just inspiration. Which I think they do a pretty good job of, as I think he keeps this air of whimsy in his style which can do that, and I find a lot of his stuff real purty to look at. But when it comes to readable -designs-, I do think I liked the illustrated ones in FF much better when Tetsuya Nomura stepped in as a mediator. Always dug his Vampire Hunter D stuff, wasn't aware he started with Gatchaman, of all things.
