Hi everybody,

Ok, I'm gonna tell you a little story.

Some friends of mine just recently started an advertising agency. They asked me if I would do "graphic design" freelance work if needed (I said hell yeah) and asked me for some images to put in a gallery of my work for their soon to come website.

I'm just wondering what kind of work I should put in this gallery, I'm not gonna put my life drawings or anatomy studies, now am I? :)

Isn't it just purely:
Commercial Art
Logo Designs
Web Layouts
Vector designs

any advice is welcome... thanks :)

I would showcase only your graphic design work on your friends site. Sounds like that is what they want to feature you as... although I suppose that agencies have need for freelance illustrators too. May be a good way to get some freelance illustration in. I would hold off on the studies though and send only finished/published pieces.

Just a thought though.. if you have a personal site where you feature your more studies and other artistic works maybe you could ask them to link to that from their site... (they may not want to do that though. Could be that their clients would go right to you is why)

Thanks, that really helps :)

After reading your comment I went and talked to my friend about if I could do illustrative work as well as the graphic design and I am now officially an aspiring Freelance Illustrator :D .

But now I have another question, now that I will be doing illustration work. Should I have like a "sketchbook" section in the gallery and should I include studies (because frankly I haven't really done any finished art)

Anyway, thanks so much for the help :) and hopefully someone can answer this newest question.

Congratulations! This is the kind of thing that will help take you places. :D

About your studies and sketches.. I dont think it could hurt having some of them posted. Actually, it would probably be very beneficial. I do think, however, that it might hurt your chances of getting some freelance jobs not having any real finished pieces up as well.

I would suggest that you pick some theme that you are interested in (whether it is music, Shakespear or whatever) and polish up some finished pieces so they shine. Doesnt really matter that they are contracted out or not.. but it will help show what you can do and what a client can expect.

Again. congratz!
