hey guys figured id start one of these off too. I havent really been into art that long but lately ive just got the bug I guess. Ive been practicing some compositing with real photos and trying to add my own little twist. Feed back would be great:overhere:

thanks softocean, Yikes? I do feel like I was using greyscale as a crutch so I pushed towards a full color composite test similar to what you might see on a color monitor of tv. Hope you guys enjoy.

Thanks for the feedback Kaktuzlime. I tried some traditional work last week and although it was fun I felt like my technique with shading was holding me back. In photoshop its alot easier to get the gradation and shading than with pencils and or blocks of charcoal. I feel like photoshop helps me grow as an artist faster.

This latest composite test kind of has a basketball theme and I added a whole in the court for tension. I love womens basketball by the way. :perv:

Gaijin- I appreciate the feedback. This one is more graphite inspired than my others. Im starting to use less photo in my composites because I felt like they were becoming a crutch. I was thinking about space babes and thought this would be kind of a new take on it.

Hey guys heres a new composite I just finished. Its mostly a video game mockup for my friend whos made some pretty sweet mods, but I thought it turned out pretty sweet. The concept is you are a level 8 ninja and even though you have a lot of weapons sometimes your ninja moves are your most powerful. I guess it would be kinda like mortal Kombat but with more action

thanks for your feedback guys. Heres a new one that tells more of a jamaican style story.

this one is sort of a joke my friend and I have about if you got all High on weed at some jamaican gang party and then started dancing on a table singin " yeah mon, no pants mon". I mostly used airbrush and photos to complete the scene. I tried to put cast shadows on the figures to bring them into the scene more. Hope you guys like it.

Now, we need to see some stuff that aren't digital. With all due respect, the colouring is horrible, the linework is just sloppy! Extreeeemily smudgy, blurred. I guess you're using a soft round brush, perhaps with some airbrushsetting. Now, in the first picture, the girls boobs seem to hang straight off the collarbone, boobs don't do that, and her head seems 1/3 of the body. That might have worked if you were going for some sort of chibistyle, but this aint chibi. There is some display of a faint knowledge in anatomy in the second piece with the arms, but man, where is Jesus hand (I guess it's Jesus), and what on earth have you done to the poor nurse?! The crazy black hole thing in the background is about the same quality of a lensflare.

IMO, stay away from the digital medium. I'm guessing you may have been inspired by some of the great artists on this forum, many of their digital pieces. But each and everyone of them have a masterful understanding of the basics.

What you need to practice mate, is not poor digital photomanipulations, but instead;
-Anatomy
-Lines
-Shapes
-Light/Shadow
-Dynamics and motion

I think I could make this list longer, but I'm quite tired. As I said, to start with, forget about the digital medium for a few years. Buy an anatomybook, I would recommend "Dynamic Anatomy" by Burne Hogarth. Draw from reference, and draw from your mind. If you can, take human drawing classes.

I hope you don't feel I've been to harsh, you seem like a nice guy, but I have to be honest in my opinion. I will be harsh, brutal and honest to you, as I would expect any other person on this forum to be to me.

In short; Don't start off with the digital medium, learn your basics.

Good luck in the future, and I'm hoping we'll be seeing some mighty fine improvement over the years.

Fare thee well mate.

Believe it or not, using pencil and paper is probably the best way for you to get practice right now because it forces you to address issues with your drawings. In photoshop, the program can fill in some of the gaps, but only very little. If you feel like your shading technique is holding you back it's because you haven't practiced it enough. If you're serious about learning, read some drawing books, get some anatomy books, and practice drawing from life; don't be all /m\ \w/

All right. If in fact you are interested in improvement with your art, stop using Photoshop. Now. Yes, it is a crutch to use photos in place of drawing figures. Graphite inspired work won't cut it either. If you're just playing around, fine, but don't expect a lot of positive feedback. Most people come here to learn, and you need to start with the basics. No offense intended, of course.
